Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

yeah not very good either so falls falls off a cliff after three well reach is okay actually that was decent because it wasn't master chief it was like before so it's set in the characters but they kept trying to drag that poor old bastard for everything in four or five infinite so it's not in a good place did you ever play like i'll file up backwards compatibility either like two or one um so i think

they've done like a halo anniversary or something or a

It's like Master Chief Collection, but I don't know if it came out on

360.

But I don't think I played it.

But they did do, to this game that I'm playing, the Halo campaign evolved, they did do a Halo Anniversary, and I think that come to Xbox 360 or something.

I remember playing it.

I don't know what I played it on, but I remember playing that.

But he would not have played CE in God knows how long.

I don't think he came back for Anniversary.

That's what I can remember.

But it was just super fun.

I guess anything glaring that they missed from this first mission that...

And I say missed meaning like maybe you wish they did a little bit better or maybe they added and they shouldn't have added or anything like that.

Do we want to talk about the terminal? Because that is a definite, that's a huge down, I feel like it's a huge downgrade from Combat Evolved Anniversary, because I love the terminals.

So all the terminals are text-based.

And I own the Halo Master Chief Collection, which I have yet to start up.

And it includes the Halo Anniversary Edition of the first Halo, which you can switch between the original graphics and the remake graphics.

And now there's a new remake of the first Halo.

And, of course, the marketing and the speak and everybody, oh, we're playing Halo, let's do Halo.

And I love Halo, don't get me wrong, and especially the first game, I love it.

Like, I've played it on Xbox, played it on 360 through backwards compatibility, played it on 360 through Halo: Anniversary, played it on Xbox One through Halo: Anniversary again.

I've played it on PC as well.

And I, I, I'm one of those people, actually I like Halo: Anniversary.

When people are complaining about Anniversary, I was like, "Why?" It's, it just...

This is usually what it came down to, right? This is usually what it came down to.

When I would try to push people for a reason, they'd be like, "Yeah, no, Halo: Anniversary sucks." I'm like, "Why does it suck?" They're like, "It just sucks." I'm like, "Why does it suck?" They're like, "Well, it's like the same thing." I'm like, "Yeah? Well, it, it's just, it's the same game with just better graphics.

Yeah, that's what I wanted." "Well, they could have done so much more.

Yeah, so in little writing, includes four full games.

A remastered Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4.

So it was one to four, and then I'm guessing they added in-

They added ODST-

I think this, this guy's been seething about Halo: Combat Evolved for, like, 25 years

I don't agree with that.

And then you see that shotgun, they just, there it is, the bulldog, and you're like, "Ugh.

I don't want it."

2001 with the original Halo: Combat Evolved, which now in 2026 has had new life breathed into it again with this all-new edition.

[laughs] Again?

Obviously it's the same, you know, group of people, but it is 343 Became Halo Studios.

This is, if you don't know, this is a full remake of the original Halo Combat Evolved.

It is not like Halo Anniversary, where Halo Anniversary was a graphical remake, but everything underlying was the same, such that you could toggle on the fly between the Anniversary graphics and the original Xbox one god damn it the original Xbox graphics not Xbox one because Xbox one is a different thing fucking stupid console anyway so Halo campaign evolved as a full remake it is the graphically it is done in Unreal Engine 5 a lot of the underlying mechanics are still my understanding is it is the bungee blam engine that was what they built all the original Halo games in and And so it, and it definitely, I think it's one of the later versions of it, because the feel of the game is very Halo 3, Halo Reach, in terms of some of how it plays, and I think they just pulled in some of that.

But then graphically, it was all rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, because the slipspace engine that they had built Halo Infinite in had really kind of followed, if you've seen Halo Infinite, you know why they aren't using that anymore.

Anyway, it is a really interesting game, and I think there's kind of two stories going on here.

There is like the narrow, how is the game? that that halo studios made is it good is it bad and then there is all the conversation around it and i think and like the sales and all of that stuff and there are two very different things so i will just say on the narrow level of and what matters most how is the game it's a really great remake of halo combat evolved i really liked it i know it's got it has controversies and there's nitpicks and there's different things different people think but i think you know first and foremost it is graphically what halo anniversary should have been it is a It is a really great refresh of the visuals, but it is extremely faithful to the art direction of the original.

So it is taking all of the basic art direction and layout of how the game looked and the original color scheme, and it's very faithful to all of that, but just realizing it with 2026 technology.

I think the best comparison I could probably give for it is Metroid Prime Remastered on Nintendo Switch, which is also, that is more a Halo anniversary scenario where the underlying engine is, it just, it is the original Metroid Prime, but graphically it is a full remake.

It's just Halo Fest, the first one happened in 2011 for Combat Evolved Anniversary.

And then it happened again in 2014 for, I think, Halo 2 Anniversary.

And then it just disappeared for five years.
