Haitian Revolution

And that's kind of the guide that, you know, helps me decide what films to look at and what films not to look at.

And I also knew I wanted to very much talk about how the Haitian Revolution and like its erasure is a big part of the story.

And, you know, how that fits into the zombie narrative, which giving space for that, you know, was definitely going to reduce the amount of space I could talk about more of the evolution of the zombie in terms of its use in Hollywood and literature.

But yeah, I mean, it was a huge challenge that the edit was really hard.

So, were you just going, you know, I'm making my film and then we'll find out what the hell happens afterwards? Or were you going, no, we really do need to do this because the interest level is going to be good if we have this aspect?

Yeah, no, I always from the start knew that the pop culture horror aspect of the film was going to bring attention to the actual story I wanted to tell.

And that's why this project was so interesting to me is that I knew that I would be able to bring more awareness to the story about the erasure of the Haitian Revolution and the denigration of voodoo and black culture in our society.

Um, but it was like, it was very hard balance to strike.

It's like, I'm going to lure you in with the zombies because everybody loves zombies.

But what I'm really trying to do is teach you about the Haitian Revolution.

Right.

Which is

which is probably the if I had one piece of history that I wish everybody knew about, it would be the Haitian Revolution.

Um, and it is, you know, I cannot under sell how truly revolutionary that revolution was because it's pretty much the only one of the time.

Keep in mind, this is happening in roughly the same timeframe as the American revolution and the French revolution of those three.

I was heavily educated by this documentary, for sure.

It would inspire the French Revolution.

It would inspire the Haitian Revolution for black freedom.

It would inspire the civil rights movement of the mid-20th century, people like Martin Luther King.

It inspired campaigns for liberty all over the world.

This is what's being set up.

And so this is also during the Pluto return, as is the Haitian Revolution, the Haitian Revolt.

is during the Pluto return to Aquarius.

So what we were seeing at this period of time, what's so important is that the the peak of the Enlightenment, the whole point of the Enlightenment was to bring education and illumination to everybody, where all men and women, everyone is created equal.

Yes.

A band that literally is named after the man who lit the match on the Haitian Revolution in the fight for independence.

You know? And so most people, when they hear about revolution, they think about a history book, right? Yeah.

But for you, revolution is family.

And And found out that there was a militia that carried all their guns in one of the locations.

And then when he was down in New Orleans, he was hearing all about the Haitian Revolution.

And he's like, we should do this.

So he talked to everyone up and down the coast.
