Haemophilus

They're named after the organism they come from using the genus and species initials, plus a number for order of discovery.

ECO-R1 comes from E. coli, and HIN-3 comes from Haemophilius influenzae bacteria.

These are examples used in your textbook.

This is followed by Haemophilus influenzae type b, or Hib, and Neisseria meningitidis.

We also see severe infections from Staphylococcus aureus and various gram-negative rods.

And the vast majority of families still choose to vaccinate, but some do not, or some are not able to vaccinate for a variety of other reasons.

And so many children are at a risk for illnesses like pertussis, strep pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae.

So I'd love to dive into some cases about these three infections in particular and learn how to consider these illnesses in the unvaccinated patient.
