Today, we're looking at six villains from very different eras of Disney animation, beginning all the way back in 1937 with the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

From there on, we'll move to Maleficent, Jafar and Ursula before finishing with Hades and Gaston.

And rather than simply comparing Disney's versions with their original fairy tales, I want to take it one step further.

Whenever we can, we're going to look for the actual people behind these characters.

When Disney made Hercules in 1997, it had a slightly unusual problem.

Greek mythology contains plenty of monsters, murders, betrayals, and deeply dysfunctional families.

What it doesn't contain is Hades behaving like Disney's Hades.

In Greek mythology, Hades is one of the sons of Cronus and Rhea, and the brother of Zeus and Poseidon.

They meet with Hades and they're like, hey, this is where people go when they die, right? And Hades is like, but Sora's not here.

Yeah.

And James Woods is like, this is the best

This is the best because Hades is important.

And then they end up in the Coco world and they're all sugar schooled out.
