Yes, let's talk about that.
N
14:08Nancy AlbertGUEST
Hackathons, ideation sessions, those are all terms that we use now.
N
14:11Nancy AlbertGUEST
And it's an exciting way for people to come together from different fields, possibly, or at least different roles within the field to innovate and ideate.
N
14:21Nancy AlbertGUEST
So people talk about what the issues are, get the teams together at different tables who all share the same issue or problem, and then think about how we can solve that problem in a way that it's never been solved before.

Seven weeks ago, I thought, should I create a hackathon? Today, that same idea has turned into a free, online hackathon for ages 13 to 18 with around 50 registrants from 15 countries, with over $10,000 worth of prizes and four judges.

DN #35: Taiwan to SF, Hackathons Everywhere & Getting Caught by Anthropic (w/ Sean Chiu)
S
22:43Sean ChiuGUEST
And it's usually limited to just one very specific problem as well.
S
22:49Sean ChiuGUEST
But today's hackathon is all about uh there's this one really cool project that um one a had hosted a while ago they were um it was a local ai event and they solved the problem of blackouts during emergency emergency situations where you know they deploy joint drones out and send signals back to tell firefighters where to go so It's crazy how people can build such a huge project in one day.
S
23:25Sean ChiuGUEST
And that's what I think is crazy about Hackathons.
S
23:31Sean ChiuGUEST
People can build this and at the same time build community because you're not just scanning people's LinkedIn QR codes like a regular event, right? You're actually collaborating with the person and frantically running up to the organizer asking questions.
S
23:49Sean ChiuGUEST
So I think this is a big, big, big, big part of events, especially with community building.
