But I think a bigger part of it is that I just haven't got to the part of the Tarzan series where Edgar Rice Burroughs runs out of classic adventure story ideas and starts to go completely nuts.

The criminals and foreign agents that populate the early novels are replaced with scientists, with cities of talking gorillas at their beck and call, and lost kingdoms conquered by the Knights Templar in the Middle Ages.
