For the inhabitants of the Swedish isle in the Baltic Sea, everything is about to change.

Under the burning July sun, the Gotlanders stand together as one to defend their homes.

Invaders are coming, and they'll destroy everything in their way.

The Gotlanders must stop them or die trying.

[soldiers yelling] [weapons clanking] For over 600 years, no one knew for sure what happened that day.

Now, archeologists are uncovering evidence of a desperate battle in the marshes at a place called Masterby.

In July 1361, Valdemar's army landed on Gotland's west coast and began its march on Visby, destroying and pillaging every Gotlander farm and village on the way.

The Visbians, many of whom were foreign merchants, barred their gates to the indigenous farmers and villagers.

And waiting for them

were the Gotlanders.

Now, Gotland's rural population wasn't completely defenseless.

That's an important distinction.

Some had armor.

But there is a huge difference between owning a spear and standing in formation against professional soldiers.

And that's what the Gotlanders were

about to discover.

The other man, a tall majestic figure in flowing silver and cyan robes, he leans over a massive ornate table covered in holographic glowing blue.

He is watching the Gotlander carving with profound respect.

The Gotlander carved the rune Dagas.

It glows with a fierce blood red and fiery light.

The Venetian elder has his hand on a holographic blueprint.

His eyes are wide, illuminated by the mingling red and cyan light.

He is watching the scene unfolding in front of him.

The men from Gotland stop his work, the men look at each other, and then the Gotlander turn around to face Nils.
