AL.com's John Sharp reports that coastal tourism is on its way to another record year.

Nearly 9 million visitors have poured into the Gulf Shores' Orange Beach region.

Local tourism officials are pointing toward increased vacation rental inventories, higher average visitor spending, and the priority of people are putting on vacations and sporting events.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach tourism CEO Beth Jindler added a reason that doubles as a pitch.

Quote, these are Alabama's beaches and Alabamians will come to the beach and so will our regional visitors, especially in uncertain times.

They want the solitude, happiness and joy and memories that they're making.
