And Guantanamo Bay, of course, we know, direct result of 9-11.

It was actually opened on January 11th, 2002.

Mansour Aldayafi, a Yemeni who was held for 14 years in Guantanamo Bay, he claims that Ron DeSantis, while he was a JAG officer serving at Guantanamo Bay, pretended to be his friend.

He would tell Mansour, Just what bothers you the most? What hurts you guys the most so I can prevent and take care of you? He pretended to be interested in Mansour's welfare, but in fact, he was interviewing him, pressing him for information so that they could use those tactics with greater severity.

Do you see the ghosts? Oh yeah, and let's not forget Alligator Alcatraz, a sort of Gitmo prototype that DeSantis built here in the Everglades back in July of 2025.

What's interesting about him is that he served, right? He served, I think he reached the rank of major.

He served in Guantanamo, in Iraq, in Afghanistan.

He has real experience, you know, not often at the kind of level that defense secretaries might have, but he has real experience.

And yet many of his references for understanding the you know, manhood and, and, and, and, you know, his tough guy vibe are all kind of like pop culture things.

I had a class I taught at a rural university outside of Chicago.

And we got on, it was when Obama was trying to close Guantanamo Bay.

And it was like 25 students in there.

And basically, the vast majority of students not only did not want Guantanamo closed they wanted then they started with everyone convicted of a crime should just be sent there for the rest of their lives then they went all the way to anyone arrested so if the cop slapped cuffs on you you go to guantanamo bay and i was like holy cow and this is like 2014 right before any of the trump stuff and here we are where we've got people thinking similarly in offices of such power in Cook County and New Orleans.

I'm sure this is more common all over the country.

It's pretty scary.
