Guantanamera

For whatever reason, I forgot about that Lil' Kim remix.

Guantanamera was dope, too.

Yeah, that's probably the best song to me, but it obviously...

Did they

Did they not put her name in that nomination?

Should have been the next year, right? No, but she's on that song.

Oh, she's on Guantanamera?

Yeah, she raps on that song.

For most of its history, there wasn't a whole lot going on in the Cuban town of Guantánamo.

[upbeat music] There's a lovely song called Guantanamera about a beautiful peasant woman from Guantánamo.

Guantanamera.

Guajira Guantanamera.

Yes, you know this song.

Guantanamera.

If not in the original Spanish, you know it from this Captain Morgan ad.

Totally.

I mean, I know another early solo hit for her around this time is Guantanamera.

In 74 is when the Tico label gets acquired by Fania Records, which was the big salsa label at the time.

And they put her on Vaya Records.

I remember Jennifer Lopez.

I remember like kind of all of that.

And I also remember like Guantanamera is like a song that I learned probably through the Fugees, like through like YPAC.

I had probably heard it maybe in the background somewhere, but that song I became familiar with by the sample in the Wyclef song.
