Uh, and she wants to look very pretty, and she has this device where you can stick a very pretty person in the device, and then you will get those pretty features, and she'll be pretty for all her life.

And she chose some bear, I guess.

And that's the whole premise of the game is Neo Cortex has made you, but you're a bit mad and you jump out the window and you land on the beach and you have to try and save Tana, your girlfriend.

Who, from a character design point of view, I'd say... from a character point of view I'd say there's a bit of a Lola Bunny vibe going on there you know what I mean but such was the style at the time like think of you know Gruntilda this is conversations going weird I'm feeling weird today lads you know in like the game over scene in Crash Bandicoot when Gruntilda steals Tootie's beauty which Tootie is Banjo Kazooie's sister and then she turns into this tall green witch who's very sultry looking I feel like they did the same with this.

And again, the same with the Lola Bunny vibe from...

Anyway, Banjo's sister gets kidnapped, called Tootie, by the witch Gruntilda.

and she wants to use tutti's beauty to help her become beautiful um and that's pretty much it and then you go through the world's collecting puzzle pieces called jiggy and in those worlds there are also mumbo tokens who is a weird witch doctor sort of thing interesting fun fact he was originally going to be the baddie of this game didn't realize that too i was researching Oh, now I forgot what I was saying.

Like Ocarina of Time, I know people always say like... like it is one of the best games ever made and I know I'm very biased but I do still think even now it's a very good game but yeah so it also won console action game of the year outstanding achievement in arts and graphics game of the year console adventure game of the year so it did really well um I mean it does look beautiful the game does look really good when I was looking at like the Xbox versions and that I was like it looks so much better on Xbox than it did on Nintendo 64 on my CRTV.

I should also say that this was developed by Rare and on this game, Rare did something really cool where people who worked on it, staff that worked on it got 50 cents for every cartridge sold, which is better than GoldenEye where they got 17 cents for every cartridge sold, but not as good as Donkey Kong where they got a dollar.

per cartridge old which i think is so good and we need to bring back bring back incentives um rather than all the money going to developers but that's for a different story for a different day not here but all right let's get into the game come on let's start so yeah like i said there is eight worlds there's mumbo's mountain treasure trove cove clanker's cavern bubble gloop swamp Freezy, wait, Freezy Peak, can't say that, Goobies Valley, Mad Mansion, Mad Monster Mansion, Rusty Bucket Bay, the worst level ever, Click Clockwood, and obviously the hub world, which is Grunty's Lair, well, Gruntilda's Lair.

So, The game is really easy up until Freezy Peak.

I feel like... banjo kazooie does not handle gender very well in in general

no no we that's something we i don't know how much we talked about that on the episode but not just i mean yeah it's it's it's very gendered a lot of this but that yeah they talk like so much about so much of the content surrounding Gruntilda is like, what are we doing here? She's

so ugly.

So gross.

And I think I wrote in my notes a couple of times, actually, that I got to hand it to John Lovitz.

I do think he brings a good.

wacky 90s energy to it that's fun and it's not in like a it's definitely trying to be I just like the vibe of Banjo Kazooie is a bit more kid friendly but trying to be edgy which it's a double edged sword sometimes where we talked about some of the jokes about Gruntilda and stuff but for the most of it I actually did find it quite charming so I would personally give props to John Lovitz I don't know if you would agree with that Ryan or not but I enjoyed it

It was still better than the Grunty fight from Banjo or Banjo-Tooie.

No, the grunty fight in Banjo-Kazooie is fine.

I just redid that with a D-pad, for crying out loud.

Another idea, that Impossible Lair almost kind of failed, but not quite.

I would kind of love it if we had a sequel to Yooka-Laylee that was more of a Grunty's Revenge style, where it is a much smaller game, maybe isometric, and it's just...

Because we don't really get those kind of like shitty GBA side games anymore.
