Groveland-Big Oak Flat

In the 2000s, the then owners sought an easement on a county road that led into Yosemite that was rejected by the courts.

And now you have a private property firm called Kingsbarn Realty Capital that is now the owners of the land and are seeking to build luxury private units on it and they're seeking a small parcel of land to create a direct access point into the park so that they're property owners don't have to go through Big Oak Flat, which would actually require a significant amount of travel through forest service land that is non-paved.

And so that's sort of where we are right now.

The real question to your point is, is this land exchange authorized by law? setting aside the question of whether it's good policy right now.

It is so difficult to recruit and to retain good talent if they can't live in the park and if they can't afford affordable housing in the area.

And so if there were conversations about affordable housing for our staff and that they could have direct access into the park through this type of road, I think there's at least a conversation NPS might want to entertain.

But the precedent that we're setting right now by having a private developer say, hey, this is necessary because we don't want to have environmental impacts by all of our private luxury homeowners have to drive to Big Oak Flat.

Well, that's a slippery slope.

The trip was made by stagecoach.

The stage had left Chinese camp and was lumbering along toward the bridge at Big Oak Flat, through wild and lonely scenes, when a masked man suddenly appeared in the road before the coach.

Neither side is immune from being a hypocrite.

With this thing in Yosemite, this land swap thing that got a lot of media attention a few weeks ago up there on the 140 at the Big Oak Flat.

You had people on the left, and I got so outraged watching this.
