Gretna

And when I got there, uh, they had a Friday night sports show.

So they would cover Carlisle, Gretna, um, Workington Reds, Workington Comets, uh, Speedway, Workington Rugby as well.

Uh, they had a Friday night sports show but no one wanted to present it.

[laughs] So I said, "I'll do it." And I ended up hosting that for the 15 months that I was there.

... opportunity came up, did it.

The day before I was reporting on Gretna in the Scottish Cup Semi-final.

It was the year that they got to the final against Hearts and lost on penalties and then a year later went bump.

Yeah

... like Brook M- Brooks Nelson was at Gretna, you know, to give a Scottish-

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah

... spin to it.

But then the problem was he died, his family weren't prepared to pay the money, so Gretna went bust, and then the league had to pay the club to sustain their fixtures.

Yeah.

I got every village bypass, moor, pub, rainstorm, wrong turn, and bad decision along the way.

Eventually, after more than one million steps, I crossed the border at Gretna, Scotland.

I was extremely pleased to arrive because finally I could stop walking.

But the finish line, the destination, isn't really what I remember.

And of course, being a- Semi-forest, pound shop forest, you know? Um, and so, uh, it was just so brilliant, and I loved it.

And I was flying through Scotland, got through Gretna, um, and my problems started in Penrith.

So the A66 is not designed for people on foot.
