Gregor Kobel

Michael Olise immediately recognized the opportunity and released Konrad Lehmer through the defensive line.

Gregor Kobel saved Lehmer's initial attempt, but the rebound returned directly to the Bayern defender.

Lehmer converted the second opportunity, 1-0 for Bayern Munich.

It was a brutal sequence for Borussia Dortmund.

Now, when we look at Dortmund in this matchup, Niko Kovac had his guys ready to go.

Gregor Kobel was an absolute dynamo in between the sticks.

We've known he was good.

I mean, obviously, if you're a Bundesliga fan... you've been following him and you kind of know what he's all about.

Now, as it turned out, it was neither team's day with the draw, but that was a massive, massive thing to happen.

Of course, Leonard Carl came into the game and had a great shot, you know, cutting in from the right side, but it hit the crossbar as well.

You could argue that as good as Gregor Kobel was for Borussia Dortmund, The crossbar was even better.

So I think we learned that Bayern Munich is going to be a really good team.

They've got one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

Gregor Kobel at 28, I think, is an excellent goalkeeper, has done a great job for this team for years now, playing for Switzerland internationally.

I think Kobel is one of the vastly underrated players there.

in the world at the moment.

that's really good when it comes to, you know, um, Borussia Dortmund and that's the, that's, that's kudos to the entire defense.

That's Schlatterbeck, that's Cadou, that's Anton, that's Rierson, that's Svensson and Kobel.

I think all of them have been really pitching in to, to bring that number to what it is.

Um, and, and I hope it continues, honestly, the, um, you know, I've been watching football for a while now, and for the longest time, obviously, you know, when I first started watching Dortmund, it was during Klopp's heavy metal era and stuff like that.

Okey.

David Raya, Eduard Mendy, Emiliano Martínez, Gregor Kobel, Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois y Joan García.

Va a estar entre Unai Simón y Raya.

No comparto que vaya a estar entre Unai Simón y Raya.

Jonathan Burckhardt set a low attempt narrowly wide while Yunus Ibn Talib received the best opportunity after Dortmund failed to deal with a loose pass.

Gregor Kobel won the one-on-one and protected the clean sheet.

That chance demonstrated the danger Dortmund faced.

They controlled the game, but one mistake could have destroyed all that control.

We'd love to put your brains on that one.

So the men's nominees are Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois, Joanne Garcia, Gregor Kobel, Emi Martinez, Edouard Mendy, David Reier, Matvei Safanov, Unai Simon and Vazinha.

There's no Bayern keeper on that list and Kobel at Dortmund is the only one from the Bundesliga.

Who's your pick?

They, they play Viking at home.

You could even look at Kobel who plays Sabri away.

I think they feel like the standout.

I mean, you can go for Liverpool's Allison potentially as well.

So what do you...

Do you want either of those goalkeepers?

I think Kobel's fine.

Do you like- [laughs]

Rory, this is your first time on the pod.

And like we try to do sometimes, I'm going to put you on the spot.

Who is your favorite number one? We've got Fabian Bredlow, Florian Mueller, Gregor Kobels, Ron Roberts-Zehler, who I love because he looked like the guy from Lord of the Rings.

or I was not Lord of the Rings.

It was Game of Thrones.

Five minutes produced a gritty physical contest with few clear-cut chances created by either side.

Union Berlin tested Dortmund's defensive setup early through wide long balls and set pieces as Tim Skarke and Jannik Haberer both fired off-target attempts past Gregor Kobel's far post.

Dortmund's best opportunity of the opening period arrived shortly before the halftime interval when a clever one-touch passing combination down the left flank freed Ethan Nwaneri inside the box.

But the young midfielder sent his strike straight into the arms of home goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow.
