A judge in New Hampshire says no to a bid for a new trial by a woman whose nineteen-nineties case inspired a book and movie.

Pamela Smart is serving life in prison for orchestrating the murder of her husband and had petitioned the court for a new trial, arguing that prosecutors misled the jury during her nineteen ninety-one trial.

Smart, who is now fifty-nine, was a twenty-two-year-old high school media coordinator when she began an affair with a fifteen-year-old boy who later shot and killed her husband, Gregory Smart.

She denied knowledge of the plot at the time of the murder, eventually taking responsibility for her husband's death in twenty twenty-four.

Smart sought to overturn her conviction in January, claiming prosecutors provided jurors with inaccurate transcripts of recorded conversations between her and the teen.

The case inspired the nineteen ninety-two book To Die For and the nineteen ninety-five film of the same name.

Inside, the foyer light illuminated Gregory Smart dressed in gray pants and a matching sports coat.

He was lying face down with his feet on the tiled foyer floor and the rest of his body on the carpet in the adjoining dining area.

A small amount of blood had pooled beneath his nose.

They pursued a range of leads, including a criminal group posing as police officers to gain entry to homes and a former jilted lover of Gregory's.

But none of these leads went anywhere.

A significant development finally emerged on Monday, May 14, two weeks after Gregory Smartt's murder.

That night, the Derry Police Department received an anonymous phone call.
