I'm Greg Boyd, as Kevin announced, and, uh, one of the teaching team here at the church.

It's really good to, to see all of you here at our family gathering, weekly family gathering.

It ran as solidly on the far side of the field.

I got to say, Greg, I'm shocked.

I'm shocked.

Basically, I threw you a softball pitch, and you didn't even swing at it.

Now, currently, many of us are at a loss as to, quote, "How we got here?" unquote, as, uh, well as being quite flummoxed as to how certain faith groups use certain labels, and how these groups can be supportive of such chaos and cruelty inflicted on the vulnerable.

Now, the book is called The Myth of a Christian Nation, and this is written by evangelical pastor Gregory Boyd.

Now, this book was written [clears throat] in, uh, during the, uh, Gulf War, um, a- in the early 2000s.

So it's really interesting to read it, and also because it was written, you can get it used [laughs] or, uh, hopefully in your library.

Is there anything that you've been reading or watching lately you could recommend? I'm

reading some Greg Boyd right now.

I'm not sure that a lot of people like it.

It's pretty thick.

It's called Crucifixion of the Warrior God.

Yeah.

So I read Greg Boyd.

This one's an easy one because it was, and I mentioned earlier that December 2006, I was reading this book on a plane on a site out to Denver.

It's called The Myth of a Christian Nation by Greg Boyd.

He's a pastor at Woodland Hills up in Minneapolis, and this book was special, obviously, because of that kind of Genesis moment of changing gears, but he was talking about so much of Jesus' ministry was just meeting practical needs, and what if more Christ followers did that? When they ran out of wine at a wedding, he made more wine.

When 10,000 people need to be fed.

And whenever you're talking about the historicity of the scripture, you need the historicity of the gospel for sure, because that is the putting together of the story of the head crusher.

The Gospel of Gregory Boyd says this.

The Gospels present a consistent portrait of who Jesus is.

Now, think of that.

Good morning.

Gotta love Andrew's voice.

He's got it.

But at least it didn't drive me crazy with that stuff like sci-fi shows usually do.

It's just, you know, okay, you have to just, you know, go with it.

But I would give it a four out of five stars on the official Greg Boyd movie reviews platform.

So there you go.

And I mean, I think this is where like one of the really helpful frameworks for us.

And I mean, we were introduced to this through Randy Clark, who was kind of referencing the theologian Gregory Boyd, talking about the difference between a blueprint theology, which would be your cessationist theology, kind of very reformed Calvinist, like, if it is this way, it must be God's will, versus a warfare theology.

If we're not seeing the breakthroughs, if we're seeing evil, well, there's a warfare, right, between the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of darkness.

And that's why Jesus said, here the kingdom is coming, and that's what we're pressing in for, and that's what we're persevering

She says, "How do we reconcile historical and modern colonialism with Israel's conquest in the Old Testament?" And I thought, "I'm gonna ask Lee this." [laughs]

Though I would've thought your friend Greg Boyd would have taught you some things to say about this.

Greg Boyd, I think, would align with what Pete Enns says, which is that God lets God's children tell the story.

So Greg would say that any violent act was not actually commissioned by God to do, and so anything that doesn't look like Jesus for him wasn't ever stemming from Jesus, was rather their perception of what God was telling them to do.

Uh, in the same way that maybe, you know, I think about that guy who shot the, uh, representatives in Minnesota.
