DonovanHOST
6:04
I do think that there have been great detective comic book heroes before.
DonovanHOST
6:11
I'm not as familiar with Green Lantern, though, so I couldn't really tell you if it's doing good.
DonovanHOST
6:16
You think of the detective thing in comic books, a lot of times it's Batman who's doing it or some of the other characters like that.
BlaineHOST
6:24
The best example I could set up beside it would be any of those Disney Plus, Marvel TV shows.
DonovanHOST
6:35
above.
DonovanHOST
6:36
Leaks.
DonovanHOST
6:37
I do think that a strength that they embraced with the Green Lantern franchise is that there are multiple Green Lanterns, which I think that they made a good choice with that and followed that into an interesting direction.
DonovanHOST
6:51
And there's been, I'm familiar with at least five off the top of my head.
Adam SiddiquiHOST

Welcome, everybody, to the Green Lantern Corecast.
Adam SiddiquiHOST
0:25
This is a podcast where we talk about all things Green Lantern from the website, thegreenlanterncore.com, a website that is right now down.
Adam SiddiquiHOST
0:33
I think we got hacked, actually.
KMBHOST
4:57
Make sure you don't go through the front door.
KMBHOST
4:59
And when he goes and finds out there's a shotgun there because everybody in Rushville hates Green Lanterns, especially Hal and especially John.
KMBHOST
5:07
And Guy just put he stole it from a Batman, but a signal in the sky.
KMBHOST
5:12
So if they need him, he can flick it.
KMBHOST
5:56
And as things are getting messy, this Maggie person, she's at the diner, and everything gets messy for John in this one episode.
KMBHOST
6:07
He even ends up in jail because he beats up Sheriff Kane's ex-husband because the ex-husband and a bunch of goons surround John because he turns on the light.
KMBHOST
6:17
They're like, we don't want no fucking Green Lanterns.
KMBHOST
6:20
You know, look what you guys did to this town.
Kofi OutlawHOST
1:04
So today we're going to be talking about the new Resident Evil reboot from Zack Kreger, which is now in theaters.
Kofi OutlawHOST
1:12
We're going to talk about Lanterns and its mid-season premiere.
Kofi OutlawHOST
1:16
or mid-season, mid-season kind of finale point in episode five, which they have marked as the mid-season because they released a whole new trailer for the next kind of batch of episodes.
Kofi OutlawHOST
1:29
So yeah, there's a lot going on there.

7 MINS LATER

Kofi OutlawHOST
8:46
All right.
Kofi OutlawHOST
8:46
Let's jump to TV.
Kofi OutlawHOST
8:48
We got to talk about Lanterns.
Kofi OutlawHOST
8:50
So Lanterns has hit its midseason point with episode five.
DanGUEST
1:18
[laughs]
TomHOST
1:18
Not you, Green Lantern.
TomHOST
1:19
Take your ring and fly away.
TomHOST
1:21
But-
PaulHOST
0:23
In it, we see Manhunter Zoe putting her plans in motion while John and Hal desperately trying to stop an all out alien war in Rushville.
PaulHOST
0:30
This is all while also trying to stop each other from claiming the title of Green Lantern.
PaulHOST
0:34
Now, though the war in Rushville is the centerpiece, I also think that at its heart, this is a war between John, Hal, and Zoe.
PaulHOST
0:40
At its cold, cold heart, it's an absolute nonstop rollercoaster of an episode that answers almost all our questions about what's going on in Rushville, brings John face to face with his destiny, and also everything that comes with it, and I can't wait to talk about it.

16 MINS LATER

PaulHOST
16:40
This also highlights how much Hal has changed over the past 10 years, and I wonder if we'll get it filled in to what made him turn shit.
PaulHOST
16:46
My guess is that it has something to do with Sinestro, and maybe seeing his mentor fall is what turned him cynical.
PaulHOST
16:52
I think it also speaks to how Hal has become so bitter and shut off from the world that he's just consumed with maintaining his title as Green Lantern, no matter the cost that comes with it, because that's all he is.
PaulHOST
17:02
As we've seen, he has an empty mansion that has nothing inside of it except his Green Lantern suits and power battery.
speaker_1SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
1:20
I just wanted someone else around who'd care that he was gone.
speaker_1SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
1:23
[police siren] The Green Lantern isn't welcome here.
speaker_1SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
1:27
[body thudding] I'm just trying to figure out why he got killed.
speaker_1SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
1:31
[gun clicking]

6 MINS LATER

PaulHOST
7:06
Sort of like how everyone hated Mr. Burns and then it was Maggie who shot him.
PaulHOST
7:10
We see something like this mob in the next shot where we watch John turning on the Lantern sign.
PaulHOST
7:15
Beyond having a dick graffitied onto it, there's also a truck that pulls up and Billy Macon says that the Green Lantern isn't welcome here.
PaulHOST
7:21
There's then a fight with John seeming to come out on top.
Jami JonesPANELIST
47:43
like that's every day anymore.
Jami JonesPANELIST
47:45
Screaming into her voice.
Jami JonesPANELIST
47:48
Yeah, exactly.
Jami JonesPANELIST
47:49
I thought it was really well done.
speaker_12UNKNOWN
52:19
But I got over it because there's some empathy there, sadness for the action.
speaker_12UNKNOWN
52:25
Whereas when she killed Krenn in the movie, it immediately ticked me off and I haven't gotten over it.
speaker_12UNKNOWN
52:33
And I feel like... maybe i'm wrong i feel like they wonder woman was too recently done they needed a female superhero supergirl was the next in line as popularity or known and so they made a angier you know wonder woman asked more violent character and then kind of piggybacking off what you were saying is i feel like they they haven't found her voice even after i don't know 57 or 60 years of comic books what this character is supposed to be and really this movie was we just don't want it to be superman but we wanted to be a girl version of that and that i feel like is the frustrating thing when they probably could have waited a couple years and told the character that was more hopeful and compassionate like you were talking about but since they did it the year after Superman.
speaker_12UNKNOWN
53:25
We have to just radically shake up this character, make it more violent, make it not Superman.
Mitchell WhitfieldHOST
6:36
You know what I mean? And I think they had to make it a little dark, because I think...
Mitchell WhitfieldHOST
6:40
the Green Lantern and that universe has sort of been teased a lot as, you know, for, you know, I know Ryan Reynolds, you know, roasts himself for doing the original movie, even though I enjoyed it.
Mitchell WhitfieldHOST
6:48
So now I feel silly for enjoying it because I don't think he even enjoys it and he starred in it.
Mitchell WhitfieldHOST
6:52
You shouldn't do that.
Andrew GraysonHOST
24:45
Do you know what I mean? I think there's something in that.
PaulHOST
24:49
I brought this up last week, and I'm wondering what you think, Muni, is that all the chat around the Green Lantern powers so far has been really based around fear.
PaulHOST
25:06
And it's like, oh, I don't have any fear.
PaulHOST
25:08
I don't have any fear.
PaulHOST
25:09
But it's all the chats on fear.
PaulHOST
25:12
And it feels like the training to be Green Lantern is kind of wrong, like to be a superhero.
PaulHOST
25:20
Yeah.
PaulHOST
25:20
Because it's not really a hero thing to have no fear, except you're Daredevil, because that's literally his nickname.
