Great Central Road

So a bit uncertain as far as where that's going to be.

But there has been some pretty heavy rainfall through the Great Central Road area and across the Euclid as well.

So there is a potential that we could see some showers and thunderstorms bringing more moderate rainfall through those areas.

And also just for the Esperance region.

And that is bringing some showers through the region.

The trough that's been over the interior and that's brought some pretty heavy rainfall around the Great Central Road in recent days, the trough is weakening and moving back towards the west.

So Not expecting to see so much in the way of shower and thunderstorm activity through those areas.

But yeah, there are some showers and some isolated thunderstorms across the mainly central part of the Pilbara and then down into the Gascoigne.

And from there, we traveled all the way up to Adelaide, Central Australia, did Alice Springs.

From there, we took the Great Central Road down to Perth, did the whole West Coast, did Broome, Kimberley, everything around Darwin, the Kakadu National Park.

Ended up doing Cape York and Brisbane in the end.

And yeah, it is, traveling is not free, it costs money.

You know, it's part of the greatest shortcut.

I should say the longest shortcut in Australia, which is that Great Central Road that runs from Kalgoorlie all the way up to Uluru and then from Alice Springs through the Plenty Island all the way through to Boolia and Longreach.

So it's called the longest shortcut.

And they've been working on the Great Central Road, sealing some of that.

And they've just finished doing a large section of the plenty.

Mind you, it's 730 kilometres from Boulia to the Stuart Highway and then another 70 into Alice.

So just picture going straight through the centre of Australia where, I mean, you're speaking to me from Alice Springs, so you're on the route and Laverton in WA in the northern goldfields is where it starts.

And essentially there's 736 kilometres from Laverton to the Northern Territory using what is currently known as the Great Central Road.

And...

The majority of that is unsealed.

And they're clearly not standing on the hose here trying to block this development.

Just want to be ready for when those travellers do start flowing on that outback way route.

And Currently, the main roads data we have says that along the Great Central Road, there's an average of about 30 to 60 vehicles a day.

And those traffic volumes are estimated to increase 300% over a decade once it is sealed.

More of them.

And then we got the Great Central.

What's that like?

Corrugations.

WA, I mean, yeah, there was all of that settling in and the building the routines and habits and that sort of thing, which, um, put the pressure on.

But in terms of, in terms of the world walk, it was comfortable for a while until I hit the Great Central Road.

So kind of walk inland, got to a town called Laverton, which is the start of the Great Central Road, which is a dirt, you know, 90% dirt road that runs northeast up into Northern Territory.

So that's the common road that people traverse to get towards Uluru from Western Australia.

That was where things kinda ramped up in terms of remoteness because there was three roadhouses along this 800,000 kilometer, you know, road.

So that's where...

It was still cool, so I wasn't, I wasn't drinking a great deal at that point.

Um, but towards, towards the end of this Great Central Road in Western Australia, it was getting into October, and then that's where I started dealing with, with hot, really hot temperatures.
