So both the films, they tackle, I think it's called causal loops, if I remember correctly.

So in Grandfather Paradox, like in time travel movies, right? The famous philosophical thing is you go back and kill your grandfather.

Would you exist and all that, right? So any time travel movie you have happens.

has that unfortunate like loop like in order to get to the end you have to have that person there at the beginning and it's just you're always being a loop both these movies kind of tackle that causal loop in a creative and smart way where you forget about it like you have to really analyze interstellar to be like oh well yeah at the end they get there that means he had to be there at the beginning and it yeah because like the ghost right but we'll get into that later And with arrival, she can't get to the end without the end already existing to then remind her.

So it's that it's the cyclical thing, but it's done in a way where it's like really well thought out.

And it's not like, Oh, here's the grandfather paradox right here.

And then you can't change anything in the past because it messes up the future.

So that she has to get to that point.

And of course, many movies and many classic examples come up.

But the first one that's very simple is The Grandfather Paradox.

pre-world war ii and what ended up happening was they were stationed in a position where they could stop um pearl harbor they were a u.s ship and it created this moral dilemma if we stop world war ii we're going to change the entire timeline yet we also have a responsibility to protect the united states of america because we're u.s naval ship and what do you do as a captain if fascinating the ramifications are fascinating it's a good little movie and something that we'll try to put in the link for you to look at but it's the grandfather paradox what happens if you go back in time and prevent your grandfather from meeting your grandmother what would happen if you went back in time and you prevented your grandfather or who could have been your grandfather, that's even weirder, from dying in World War II on the beaches of Omaha.

So just going back to time for a second, because I've just had an interesting thought that obviously if we can go into the future and we can see things beyond where we should, number one is could we therefore change the course of the future because we know what's gonna come in in which case we can change things or do you think that even if we look into the future we can't and the way that time travel normally works is there's there's two ways one is the grandfather paradox and two is the bootstrap paradox bootstrap is kind of like terminator one where the very thing that happens is a loop that causes itself.

So John Connor sent his dad back, Rhys, who then births him, and it's this loop.

Grandfather Paradox is more kind of like Back to the Future, where the changes you make has an impact on the future.
