She made up a little song based on your names, so I thought you'd enjoy it.
Josh WiddicombeHOST
2:26
We live on a boat in the Grand Union Canal.
Josh WiddicombeHOST
2:28
I'm from Cambridge-"
Rob BeckettHOST
2:29
Sorry.
Rob BeckettHOST
2:39
Keep going.
Josh WiddicombeHOST
2:39
Oh.
Josh WiddicombeHOST

"I want a boat on the Grand Union Canal.
Josh WiddicombeHOST
2:42
I'm from Cambridge," Rob is guessing today, "from Jasmine, 108- 1,889 weeks."
Catherine CowieGUEST
5:53
So I didn't have a huge amount of time to prepare.
Catherine CowieGUEST
5:56
I maybe had a month or two of starting to do recces because I'd done the Grand Union Canal race earlier in the year.
Catherine CowieGUEST
6:01
And that had kind of been my kind of goal race.
Catherine CowieGUEST
6:03
So I didn't have a huge amount of time to recover and then build back up for races across Scotland.

10 MINS LATER

Catherine CowieGUEST
16:11
It's nothing fancy at all.
Catherine CowieGUEST
16:12
It's just all I had time to do.
Catherine CowieGUEST
16:14
I had done a good block of training for the Grand Union Canal, so I had all those miles in my legs, which would have helped too.
Catherine CowieGUEST
16:21
But yeah, not overly structured, I would say.
MichaelHOST
42:17
It's...
MichaelHOST
42:24
This is one of those cases that I kind of stumbled on when I was travelling up the Grand Union Canal and I got to Northamptonshire and this was one of the cases I covered.
MichaelHOST
42:32
So I went to Delapree Lake or Ransom Road Lake as it's called.
MichaelHOST
42:35
I think some people call it Delapree Lake next to Delapree Abbey which isn't an answer to the question so don't worry about it.
MichaelHOST
43:33
So it's just everything he does is just entirely wrong, and every single detail was just...
MichaelHOST
43:41
There's just deficiencies in it.
MichaelHOST
43:42
Like, I get it, he's dumping the body around parts of the United Kingdom and in rivers to kind of make it, you know, rivers float and rivers move, therefore body parts kind of float up and down and think... you know drift around and they disappear and as you can see with here it goes to uh Anton's Gout in Lincolnshire then um one of the second one of the body parts ends up in Tattershall we're not too sure depends because it's tidal we're not too sure whether he dumped them in Tattershall and it drifted down to Anton's Gout or vice versa but it's only 10 miles away and it's very feasible we kind of we kind of dealt with this case here even on the Grand Union Canal which isn't tidal at all and doesn't really have a huge amount of movement but we've dealt with that kind of thing before where body parts and even whole bodies are dumped in the canal and then they drift and you can kind of see the pattern of it so it kind of makes sense that you would do that and if you look at Anton's Gout as well it's very quiet it's very remote we're dealing with the area in and around Lincolnshire around the wash and area like that and there's lots lots of rivers and backwaters and and small inlets and you know this is the kind of place where you could dump a body and it would disappear um And obviously he says he kind of done his research on this, but that's the thing.
MichaelHOST
45:05
It's like he said he did his research on tidal movements and stuff like that, but he doesn't seem to have done it well.
Ed ScottHOST
23:04
But it's frustrating to have to have to deal with that.
Ed ScottHOST
23:09
You leave Bushy Park and then after a few streets and parks and things, you end up on the canal, on the Grand Union Canal, which you deviate from a few times in classic London Loop fashion.
Ed ScottHOST
23:20
You know, come and look at this thing, come and look at this park, go into here, turn around.
Ed ScottHOST
23:24
But you basically hug it all the way to Uxbridge.
Justin DrownHOST

She had also started life as an abandoned infant.
Justin DrownHOST
6:12
She was found as a baby in the Grand Union Canal, and she never learned who her parents were.
Justin DrownHOST
6:17
And that is a thing to keep somewhere in mind, because 30 years later, she would write that part of what she recognized in him was just another outsider.
Justin DrownHOST
6:26
She had come to the United States hoping to land interviews.
ClaraHOST

They filmed at the actual Paddington Green police station.
AdrianHOST
9:14
And they shot scenes on Harrow Road, Ladbroke Grove and around the Grand Union Canal.
ClaraHOST
9:20
Real places with real grit.
AdrianHOST
9:22
So how does that physical change of location, you know, shooting on a real street versus a painted set, actually change the psychological experience for the audience sitting in the theater?
Johnny VaughanHOST
12:55
I'm a most devoted admirer of your splendid podcast, which has become my indispensable companion during my evening velocipede excursions along the...
Johnny VaughanHOST

Grand Union Canal.
Johnny VaughanHOST
13:06
Whenever I'm not painstakingly polishing the brass on my trusty 1912 Abingdon King dick, naturally.
Johnny VaughanHOST
13:14
In any event, I felt compelled to put forward my dear grandmother's brother, Albert, that's your great uncle, for your consideration as a blooming legend.
Adam HoughGUEST
10:56
And when I started running, that literally all disappeared.
Adam HoughGUEST
10:58
So I have such fond memories, because I was training Milton Keynes at the time, of running along the Grand Union Canal that was literally at the back of my house.
Adam HoughGUEST
11:07
And I would do couch to 5K workouts, literally running along this scenic view.
Adam HoughGUEST
11:12
And there would be mornings where I could feel my calves going, why are we doing exercise? But then I was also at the time still...
