wrightsville beach we've seen minor flooding man i need to just wrap this show up i can't speak anymore um and i think that's our last one so we've been uh we've been showing these to you over on the carolina weather net as part of our special coverage so if you want to keep a close eye on those you can stream the carolina weather net over there on the youtube channel anytime to get uh these uh special coverage and also real-time alerts so when the national weather service issues beach hazard statements coastal flood statements flash flood warnings flood warnings you know the the full gamut of flood suites uh you will hear the uh the system read those out to you so that you can be notified of those things in real time any point that they happen let's check in with scotty powell he was uh at one of those places today uh where king tides were a problem let's take a listen scotty
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
79:57
everyone i'm meteorologist scotty powell here in garden city and we are going to be talking about the king tides uh we've been talking about all week how king tides are really starting to peak uh this week especially over the last few days and what is a king tide well really it's the highest high tide cycle of the year and this happens occasionally around four maybe six times a year on the grand strand uh but really this is one of the higher highest tide cycles that we've seen so far this year across the Grand Strand and it happens when the sun and the moon kind of line up with earth the gravitational pull and especially if the moon is closer to the earth it kind of just really high heightens that high tide and then the northeast winds that we've been seeing all month long is really just even add on to that so that's why we are seeing some of the highest tide cycles here so you can see behind me in Garden City people are out walking in it I don't know why you would do that But really a lot of people were out driving in it.
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
80:53
In fact, I've been here for about, I don't know, about 30, 45 minutes.
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
80:57
and there's been vehicles that has been driving through this flood water and why they're doing that, I have no idea because it's gonna cause damage to their cars with the salt water, but also it creates damage into these local businesses.
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
83:04
And it's got salt water all over its vehicle, creating damage to the car.
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
83:09
So anyways, we'll wrap this up saying, please don't come down and drive through the floodwaters.
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
83:13
If you want to come see the King Tut flooding, know just don't drive through the floodwaters be safe out there because it creates damage and we don't need that so that's what the king tide's all about it's a big story down here i don't know why a lot of the news companies or organizations don't cover it because it affects us community folks who live here in the community it affects their businesses it costs them money and yet they're really news company and the and the grand strand comes covers it so I guess it's old news to them.
Scotty PowellSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
83:43
I don't know.
