Grand Slam

And one of the ways we measure success, you know, a few weeks ago when we asked players to do pre-packaged content this year, we had, I don't know, 115, 120 players sign up to do it because they see where the tour is going and they understand how putting themselves out there and being vulnerable helps create relevance.

I remember, I say this all the time, when Rory won the Grand Slam, his first Masters, I cried.

One of the reasons I had tears in my eyes is because I feel like I know something about Rory.

And I've seen the videos of him hitting golf balls into his parents' washing machine.

He squandered it a few times with some pretty epic meltdowns on the final stretch.

And for over ten years, I think, had won a major a major tournament that had a great career, but hadn't won any of the four majors and winning the Masters would complete the career Grand Slam, which only a few other golfers have done.

2025, he won the Masters.

Which was very exciting, very emotional.

And I guess you sort of hear stories from other players as well.

I think Rory McIlroy, who just got the Grand Slam last year, his family didn't really come for money as well.

And I think they saw the talent he had.

He was quite a talent since he was a kid.

I'll probably just tell myself the same stuff I taught myself.

But I think to all the aspiring juniors out there, I think most importantly, you have to enjoy what you're doing, have fun and just give it your best.

And what would you say to the 22-year-old Shannon Tan about what's next for you? World number one, Grand Slam.

And then I also really loved what you wrote about him.

You know, early in that week, he talked about thinking the Grand Slam was going to happen.

satisfy him.

And, and it didn't.

to know like hey this will probably change three months from now or three years from now and i'm gonna look like an idiot but i can't help it because i want to there's a lot of honesty to him i think in the way that in the way that he speaks the whole live thing totally i mean every two months and then he got the dagger at the end from the you know from when the pj tour and live sort of merged or whatever whatever we're calling that now um In terms of his personal journey, I mean, it echoed...

When he was talking about, I thought the Grand Slam would fulfill me and we were all... know discussing that at one point it echoed the tom brady quote of like is this you know is this all there is it echoed david duvall in 1999 when he won was it 99 2000 somewhere around there uh when he won the open and he's coming back with the clear jug is that it is this is this all there is and i think it's the most it's the most human adult thing that i think we've all asked of like And I do it.

I'm a believer.

be so sweet when he completes the career Grand Slam next year.

But the Masters had already been played and he hadn't won it.

So they're like, well, so a grand slam in golf is winning all four majors in one year.

Mm-hmm.

Well, he couldn't because he won three and then the year ended.

And there was no Masters because the Masters had already happened.

So what do you do? Well, the Masters is coming up in April of 2001.

What if he wins it? Is that a grand slam? People are like, no, it's not in the same year.

Other people are like, yes, it's four majors in a row.

Let's call it a spade a spade, right? He doesn't really care.

if or when he accomplishes the career grand slam.

He doesn't care, as I mentioned, about chasing these numbers.

It's just the pure competition of it all.

I would be absolutely shocked.

as anything in golf if we got to 2031 and he hadn't won a U.S. Open then.

So I do wonder, Josh, like we saw with Rory last year, let's get him to win that U.S. Open, finish the career Grand Slam, all of a sudden solidify yourself as a top 10 all-time player, and then find that level of motivation maybe when he's 32, 33, and he's gotten 30 wins, the Slam, multiple majors, and he's still maybe thinking about what's next.

I think the difference possibly between him and a guy like Rory losing a little bit of motivation is...
