This is a stunning country filled with volcanoes, tropical beaches, enormous freshwater lakes, and beautiful colonial towns.

And one of the best places to experience is Granada, a beautiful colonial city sitting right on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.

It's become a popular place for expats and retirees because you have restaurants, cafes, markets, healthcare, and just about everything you need close by, while still being surrounded by incredible architecture and natural beauty.

But what really makes Granada stand out is how remarkably inexpensive it can be.

You can actually still find apartments starting at around $250 a month here, with plenty of comfortable long-term rentals in the $250 to $500 range.

If you prefer living directly on the Pacific Coast, San Juan del Sur is another popular expat destination, although you'll pay a little more here.

So I went to see that place in particular.

And then we went to Granada one day, which is less than an hour from the resort.

And that's a colonial city right on the lake there.

The name of the lake right now is escaping me, but the lake was beautiful.

Yeah.

Yeah, exactly.

But I thought Granada was really, really cool.

It reminded me a lot of Antigua in Guatemala, and it was one of the cities that was settled by the Spanish 1500s.

Lake Nicaragua, Nicaragua.

And, you know, the same thing, the treehouse hostel in Granada, Nicaragua.

I mean, these stories, I have people play it up on their phone.

And I said, that's a real treehouse.
