Um, stepping away from the Apple world just a little bit here.

Um, Google admits some, quote, complex, unquote, Android apps usually...

Or, or excuse me, run poorly on Intel Google Books.

This is from Engadget.

So, okay.

Chromebooks integrate Google's own competitive apps.

But now there's Google Books.

The new machines, built by five different manufacturers to start, run a new operating system, taking what Google claims is both the best of Chrome OS and its Android software used on phones and tablets, but is optimized for Google's artificial intelligence called Gemini.

Google Books cost more than Chrome Books, with retail prices between $9 and $1,300, but they're intended to compete with higher-end Windows laptops and MacBooks, integrating more with Android devices.

When that runs out, Android's low memory killer ends background apps.

That is why the Pixel 9 ships with 12GB and the Pixel 9 Pro with 16GB, and why every Googlebook starts at 16GB.

Apple uses Automatic Reference Counting , which the compiler builds directly into Swift and Objective-C code.

Objects are freed the instant nothing references them, with no scan, no pause and no big free buffer.

So that's a big deal.

So there you go, Google Books.

I put the links into the show notes there.

Okay, we should take a break, and we will come back with our final segment on Tech Talk after this.

And we talked a little bit about this on the last show.

Google Book is a Google design platform built by Acer, Asus, Dell, and HP, and Lenovo.

hybrid of Android technology and Chrome OS Foundation, with Gemini built directly in.

The entry premium starts at $1,000.

Premium and ultra-premium, a long way from Surface Go and Surface Laptop Go days, are under, they were under $600.

So what you're seeing here is the Apple builds, built down to $699 and Microsoft is building up, leaving the low end to Dell, Asus, Acer, and I guess we can also say Google Book, if you want to do that.

The future of laptops.

Google Books.

Google Books.

Google Books.

Yeah.

Are we interested in this? Okay, so here's the thing.

Google and partners have decided to launch Google Books.

Five models were announced yesterday.

And yeah, today's an exciting day.

We've introduced, uh, our new platform for laptops called Googlebook, uh, which is, uh, amazing software from Google with some really great hardware, uh, really top-end hardware from the best laptop makers in the business, including HP, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, and Dell.

Uh, and of course, there's Gemini intelligence on board for really helpful AI features to help you get more done.

And, and most importantly, if you're an Android phone user, this is the laptop you've been waiting for.
