When I call her- I usually use WhatsApp.
S
85:21Sienna TriggianiHOST
Sometimes we'll use Google Meet, but, um, a lot of the time we'll use WhatsApp because it's a universal app.
S
85:28Sienna TriggianiHOST
It works on iPhone, it works on Android, it probably works on a BlindShell as well, um, which is actually running on a primitive version of Android.
S
85:42Sienna TriggianiHOST
However, it's a universal app.
S
90:14Sienna TriggianiHOST
Um, I don't know where I'd be without it now.
S
90:17Sienna TriggianiHOST
[laughs] Um, yes, you have FaceTime, but, um, yes, you have FaceTime, but, uh, not everybody has an iPhone.
S
90:26Sienna TriggianiHOST
And yes, you have Google Meet, which is compatible on iPhone and Android, um, and you can do individual calls with Google Meet, but not everyone has it.
S
90:42Sienna TriggianiHOST
Um, Google Meet is good, but as far as audio quality, as far as, uh, universal access, and I don't mean like screen reader access, but like just general, uh, operating system access, um, I mean, yeah, it's...
Blended Learning Best Practices That Still Hold Up (Recorded 2021) - episode #5 of all time

And it was easier to, to keep track of where they're all at in their, in their learning and to know how to cater to their needs.
T
5:10Thomas ArnettGUEST
And so, you know, kind of as a corollary with that, we asked teachers, you know, what kind of tools do you use for online learning, both before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and what do you maybe plan to use afterwards? And the tools that were used the most were learning management systems like Canvas or Schoology or Google Classroom, and video like, you know, Zoom or Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.
T
5:34Thomas ArnettGUEST
But in a smaller subset of teachers, roughly, you know, thirty to forty percent, they said they were using tools for creating their own online lesson materials or for video recording their lessons and posting those online.
T
5:46Thomas ArnettGUEST
And we saw when we looked at the comparison between who was using those tools before the pandemic and who planned to use those after the pandemic, we saw the biggest jump in adoption in those areas, which I think corresponds to those teachers, the teachers that had figured out how to flip their classroom, kind of change the instructional model to make it work better in an online setting.

I have got GarageBand recording, which is what I normally use, but I've also got a Google Meet recording so that I can get the audio and a transcript and I've also got Loom recording so that I can get a transcript because as i said like i'm just trying to cover all bases here i went to start recording the podcast and the shire people turned up and they've decided that they're going to do some landscaping i.e sawing down trees in the reserve that's like right opposite my house so there's been random sporadic chainsawing going on so yeah i thought i wasn't quite sure if my yeti microphone was gonna be able to block out the background sound or not so i thought i'll just do a backup with a loom i don't know if loom picks up the background sound or not and then just to be doubly sure i know google meet doesn't so hopefully we're gonna be okay So how are you? Welcome back.

Why the current tech backlash feels different
N
39:49Nilay PatelHOST
AI has mostly been imposed on consumers.
N
39:52Nilay PatelHOST
Every time I open Google Meet, it insistently tells me Gemini is here now.
N
39:56Nilay PatelHOST
And I'm like, I don't need this to be here in any way, shape, or form.
N
40:00Nilay PatelHOST
And so that imposition where we're claiming all the issues that are so high, when in many cases it has just been put in front of us, there's something about that that feels like it can transcend the algorithm.

To me, Apple is attempting to implement this in a way where I think they can say, look, it's basically just like using your memory because they don't let you access the recording, and they're saying, here's a summary of what was said.

I think that people in corporate America are used to every meeting being recorded now if it's online, because you'll see nine different assistants join every Zoom and Google Meet, and it's insane.
