Goodbye, Columbus

The way she puts it, she didn't have the right look for Hollywood.

Ali MacGraw is most known for films like Goodbye, Columbus in 1969, Love Story in 1970, and The Getaway in 1972.

She is also known for taking her work to bed, as in co-stars, but we're just talking about one of them today.

She received a Golden Globe Award and Oscar nomination for her performance in Love Story with Ryan O'Neal.

She met her then husband, Evans, years earlier, and they went out on a lunch date, which she described as inauspicious.

He kept two phones active on his left and right ear, conversed little with her, and forgot to pay the cabbie when he sent her on her way.

Charming, right? [chuckles]Evans managed to look up at his date long enough to cast her in Goodbye Columbus in 1969, which was her debut role.

So I guess he was paying her some attention.

And it was wonderful.

And then the first movie I ever saw that was a great movie and... also life-changing but for completely different reasons was Goodbye Columbus because that was the first movie I ever saw that reflected where I lived.

In fact, it was in fact about where I lived.

It was about Newark and Short Hills.

get this projector fixed, since that is the focus of my profession, I'll probably feel a little less anxious.

But, yes, that'll be good.

And, by the way, that by Columbus did get an Oscar nomination for its writing for Arnold Shulman, which is pretty great.

It was really good.
