The Going-to-the-Sun Road, and honestly that road, 'cause I feel like you actually get kind of up close and personal to some mountainous terrain that's really unique.

So we got to drive that road, and it was really, really cool, and also some really nice t- sharp curves, which makes a person quite a bit slow down.

But y- we took it as it was because at this point I was like, "Okay, we're not starting this trail until 2:15 if we're lucky, so what's a girl to do?" And then we were following, of course, our Google Maps, and Molly has it set to the right one, and before we took this car it was pretty low profile.

The building will remain open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day through September 27th.

Winter closures ongoing to the Sun Road vary year to year based on local weather patterns.

Logan Pass typically becomes inaccessible sometime between late September and late October.

So driving up the Sun Road, again, being from the Midwest, I call it the Packers Park there for a little while, the green and gold.

But today we've got a kind of a unique episode and we're talking about... uh, things that are worth the weight.

And in this case, the, uh, the weight and space that things take up in your pack as you hike both day hiking and backpacking.

It's crossed by the mountainous going to the sun road among more than 700 miles of hiking trails.

It has a route to photogenic hidden lake.

Other activities include backpacking, cycling and camping.

They had an absolute fucking Noah's Ark checklist, and they're like, we're going to see every one of these bitches.

The Going to the Sun Road was closed, we were told, because of snow.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, and that is luck.

Six weeks earlier, at Glacier National Park, the luck ran out because on July 11th there, on the Rimrock section of the Going to the Sun Road, about a mile west of Logan Pass, a rock fell through the roof of a vehicle, struck the man inside, He was 72 from Missouri.

He died from his injuries on July 16th.

He wasn't climbing.

Why is it that with the most poetic nomenclature in the world, the Indian, one by one the historic names of the peaks, lakes, and rivers of Glacier Park are being replaced by the names of obscure government officials, professors in small universities, unimportant people who go out there to the West and memorialize themselves on government maps? Each year sees some new absurdity.

What names in the world are more beautiful than Going-to-the-Sun and Rising Wolf? Here are almost a Dog Mountain, Two Medicine Lake, Red Eagle, a few that have survived.

Every peak, every butte, every river and lake of this country has been named by the Indians.

The names are beautiful and romantic.

Automobile roads and trails alike touch the chalets, and although I am firm in my conviction that it is impossible to see the park properly from an automobile, I realize that there are many who will not take the more arduous and sportsmanly method.

For them, then, a short trip of twelve or fifteen miles each day takes them from chalet to chalet.

There are chalets at Two Medicine Lake, at Cut Bank Canyon, at Going-to-the-Sun, at St. Mary's Lake, at Gunsight Pass, at the Sperry Glacier, at Granite Park, and at Belton.

There are inclusive and very moderate rates for various tours to take up a certain number of days.
