Godzilla Minus One

It was raining cats and dogs, but it was still a real good time.

And then, of course, Godzilla minus zero comes out this week.

I couldn't be more excited.

It's going to be a good time.

Of the Godzilla movies I've seen, Godzilla Minus One ranks up there for me, as director Takashi Yamazaki created a fascinating look at war through the point of view of the losing side, and in this giant monster movie, gave me characters I was invested in as they deal with the radioactive dinosaurs swimming and stomping around.

With Godzilla Minus Zero, he continues to explore those characters and goes even bigger, and I end up liking the sequel even more.

With its exploration of post-war trauma and the lingering effects on these people from Godzilla's destruction in the previous film, this works on a thematic level as well as the spectacle.

Hello and welcome back at your favorite kaiju film lover from down under Ben and I'm reviewing a film I've been anticipating for quite some time ever since I heard there was a sequel to it if you're not familiar.

I'm reviewing Godzilla Minus Zero which is the sequel to Godzilla Minus One which came out a few years ago now and Godzilla Minus Zero picks up a few years later two years I believe after the events of Godzilla Minus One where it's kind of a war-torn Japan and it is once again written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki and this will be a spoiler free review So do not worry, but all I'm going to say is I just beg that no other country makes these Godzilla films going forward because if this is the quality we're going to get coming out of Japan and obviously the origin of Godzilla, then that's all I need.

This film is genuinely the best action film of this year from memory.

It is absolutely fantastic.

incredible the third act alone is visceral energetic it is incredible filmmaking first of all but the storytelling it's just something you you just can't get without the impact and emotional toll that i think it shows throughout the story of these human characters and i was lucky enough to see this early and had an introduction by takashi yamazaki And he said, first and foremost, that he wanted to make a human story, a story that people connect with and level the stakes.

And I think that was the most important aspect for me because I've said this before, like at the end of the day with a monster film or Godzilla film, but any film like that matter.

if it doesn't have great characters great story great emotional impact at the end of the day all that can hold it together is the action while this film has incredible action sequences incredible sequences in general some great visuals and sound at the end of the day what really elevates it is the great story that i think will everyone can be on board with everyone can have an emotional impact everyone can have something to take out of it but if I'm being honest I saw this quite some time ago a week or two ago and have been embargoed till now but I've had time to sit on this and think I'm not straight out of watching it and I will stand by it that I think this is the best Godzilla film that we've ever received hands down in my opinion I think it's a step up from Godzilla minus one in every facet of the imagination whether it be the scale the visuals the sound the storytelling the action sequences, everything there is absolutely vital and absolutely incredibly well done.

And it's just visceral, energetic filmmaking and I adored it.

um so yeah anyway enough about that fucking movie uh i also i am seeing uh godzilla minus zero on tuesday which is i know you are as well uh and there might be more news about this later on in the episode uh i'm seeing it with my friend sean who had not seen minus one i had not seen it since the theater So I went over to his house last night and we watched Godzilla minus one.

And God damn, what a movie.

It's so good.

I didn't realize that.

Yeah, Godzilla Minus One really caught me by surprise when it came out.

It was in my top ten that year.
