¶¶ Thus, the efforts on Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 was to make an expansive celebratory epic, returning to a few more treasured fan favorites.

The aforementioned cybernetic Mechagodzilla, as well as the bird Rodan and Baby Godzilla, all updated for the 90s audience.

At the start of this film, we see the remains of Mecha Ghidorah, last seen in 1991's King Ghidorah feature, recovered from the ocean by the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasure Center.

Meanwhile, an egg being guarded by Rodan turns out to contain an infant Godzilla, referred to as both Godzillasaurus and Baby by different characters in the movie.

That was the main title for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2, showcasing the new theme for Mechagodzilla, a popular foe for the series, last seen in 1975's Terror of Mechagodzilla, in which it was built by beings from outer space.

It's certainly a more strident and somewhat proud theme than if it could be composed for the same metal kaiju in 1975, perhaps because here it's been constructed by the Japanese to protect their country and doesn't represent a threat from space.

Continuing with the new melodic material heard in this score, there are two themes applied to Baby G, or Baby Godzilla, a cute character last seen in 1969's All Monsters Attack, For this updated version of the often derided Little Beast, Ifukubi writes both a melancholy adagio for strings, harp, and oboe, as well as a choral element, which represents its telepathic link to Mickey.
