God's Own Country

Mm.

It's the kind of tangible feeling you get when you're uncomfortable by being confronted by The Zone of Interest, and then when you're watching Tony Erdmann, it's that, "Oh, God, this is so cringey.

Oh, I don't know whether to laugh or to just empathize with her." And even the singing scene, you're like, "Oh, God, this is awful." And then she sort of goes for it, and you're like, "Okay, maybe it's okay." [laughs]

Yeah.

So it's just they...

Yeah.

Yeah.

God, I haven't, I haven't thought of that film in a while, actually.

Like even Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg one, I thought was a real romp.

And, you know, God's Own Country, La Chimera, Knives Out.

He's just such an extraordinary actor on screen.

So quietly chameleonic, so compelling.

I think not casting too many Americans is huge because Tambor in his role, as problematic as that dude turned out to be, is very funny because he is so good at playing that, the Rube.

And my God, his ascendance into party leadership is made just epic by his inability to understand.

Or his, I guess it's the, he understands exactly what he is being asked to do, and he has a great fealty to the party and the nation, but he has no clue where he is at any given moment, it doesn't seem to me.

That's where the gap comes.

That's awesome.

At the BAFTAs Scotland, Iannucci won Best Director of Fiction and Best Writer in Film and Television.

And over at the British Independent Film Awards, it was nominated for Best British Independent Film but lost to God's Own Country.

Iannucci was nominated for Best Director but lost to Rangano Nayoni for I Am Not a Witch.
