Goblin Bombardment

Back in the day, I toyed around with some bombardment Arclight Phoenix style deck, which actually kind of worked, but not really that great.

With Bird Alive, Arclight Phoenix, and Goblin Bombardment.

which was kinda okay, but now you could omit the Arclight Phoenixes and simply take Bloodghasts or something else that comes back from the graveyard, like Forsaken Miner, and you can basically ping your opponent, you get your Phoenixes back, ping your opponent, and make some kind of, I don't want to say mid-range-y, but it's...

Ping-pong.

There's this neat little interaction.

I don't know if you guys know this.

It's Forsaken Miner, Goblin Bombardment.

Forsaken Miner says if you commit a crime, you can pay black and it comes back from your graveyard.

Yeah, the marriage is, like, Faithless Looting and, like, Goblin Bombardment.

That's, like, the two cards that you would want, because then you're, like...

I mean, Orcish Bowmaster, like, does, like...

Like, my head goes is, like, Orcish Bowmaster, this card, discard outlets, and Goblin Bombardment.

So you can play the Orcish Bowmaster, kill something in there, sack your thing.

Oh, yeah.

We ain't playing that Johnny Nakato Pariah.

That shit looked like a dildo.

Yeah.

Energy is something else that can kind of compete with a like Dimir Moonshadow deck in terms of a curve.

But in addition to just having hands that will goldfish you quickly, they also have kind of their own bullshit endgame with things like Goblin Bombardment and Ajani or recursive creatures off of Lazotep Quarry that threaten to wear you down as well.

Yeah, this is where we started calling the meta scrappy when we were setting up the topic for this episode.

It's not just that Dimir Tempo has become a scrappy tempo deck.

Energy is scrappy as hell, too.

And where you don't get days... or force of will you do get this you know unbeatable end game in a lot of cases like there are plenty of games that just end when your opponent resolves a goblin bombardment and then as a different fair deck you can't actually do anything anymore like even if they resolve a johnny it won't matter it'll be a planeswalker at will it'll start lava axing you and all your permanents and you'll be dead uh ensnaring bridge does not stop this deck in wrath of the skies might if you get it on the get it up to two fast enough but even then that's not taking the planeswalker down and like phil called out the lazative quarry this is a wasteland deck good luck getting to four mana against it and This is a deck that meets that Dimir Tempo deck where it is in a way that might just overrun it.

Just get a couple Ocelot Pride triggers and now who cares about that 7-7 Moonshadow? You could block it every turn with the City's Blessing.

Something else that I have been a little bit surprised to see is a return of Hogak.

I will literally be within like eyesight.

I'll get my Pyroblast, my Goblin Bombardment, and my Orcish Lumberjack sign.

So it's four cards.

And I was second in line.

Kaju did snowflakes on it.

And then the Orcish Lumberjack was a red-green signature with red sparks coming off of it.

Same for Goblin Bombardment.

Really cool.

There's not that much that's big.

What's my hook that's gonna get me into a deck?" And I think that a card like Goblin Bombardment, I imagine, is gonna be probably the best card in the cube, but it gives players a little bit of a direction.

Oh, Skullclamp's in the cube.

Or a Cavalcade of, Cavalcade of Calamity is going to be a card that's gonna give somebody a little bit of direction.

It's kinda cool mechanically.

It's, like, gonna pay you off for grinding out and eventually getting to making you this huge 8/8.

I do probably need to make sure there's just enough disenchant, and especially considering, you know, if we're also talking about Goblin Bombardment being a key payoff, and a lot of other things that are enchantments and artifacts.

It's playing, like, the altars.

Uh, it's playing, uh, Goblin Bombardment, so you can just, like, sac everything and deal a bunch of damage.

Like, I think this deck will be consistently good even if it doesn't fit the bracket standards of having, like, a two-card combo in it, and it does have...

No, actually, I cut the combo.

And with all of the, like...

It's funny that your deck is a stor- like, a spellslinger deck, but your win cons are more, like, token-based because it's more, like, impact tremors effects.

There are still, like, Long Shot and Guttersnipe and, like, those, those classic spellslinger things, but it's more on, like, creatures entering or, like, sacrificing them all to a Goblin Bombardment, which I think is, like, really unique.

And that is where I say this is a cool bracket four deck because it's not just a storm deck.

Sort of didn't see any reason to get into red, and I had picked up a couple of Nomad Outposts, which is the, uh, Mardu tri-land, early in the draft to sort of fix my mana for black and white.

And then in pack three, I got passed Corey Steelcutter and Goblin Bombardment and sort of just, like, moved in on a whim and ended up getting, like, I had a Bloodstained Mire, which notably can't get mountains because there are no basic mountains in the, in the, like, cube.

Um, but I had a blue-red Surveil land that I could fetch as well as a Sunbaked Canyon.

So I technically had four red sources [laughs] to splash these two cards.

I got to the end of the draft, and I really felt like I was about to zero-three and miss top 128.

Like, [laughs] I just, like, I felt like my, my deck was so anemic.

Like, I had some good stuff going on, like the Blood Artist played well together, but the only sac outlets in my deck were Carrion Feeder and Goblin Bombardment, and I guess Rite of Oblivion, but that's a one-off.

I had Asmo and the Cookbook, but the Cookbook didn't do anything other than be, like, a card that I draw that I can just pitch for free.
