Go Up Moses

For our Juneteenth concert in Tulsa, Maz was inspired to reimagine Koloshone, the winter, from another example of an old song made contemporary.

I decided to use that song that Roberta Flack sings on Quiet Fire, Go Up, Moses.

And I

was like, really, really love that song because of how it flips around the old song that Paul Robeson sang and a bunch of other people did too, which was Go Down, Moses.

Go down, Moses, way down in Egypt's land.

And this whole idea of, you know, go up, Moses.

You've been down too long.

Leave that place.

It's just, just kind of just, yeah, the, the chord structures and whatnot.

But the one I also want stories on is Go Up Moses.

Ha.

Motion worker, Adam Dorn.

That's right.

So it was on Roberta's album.

I think Joel's actually singing, like, the, "Go up Moses," on the original, you know? So he's doing that, and Adam wanted to redo it, and he redid it, like, phenomenally, kicked ass on that track, man.

I love that track.
