Go Nagai

And eventually, observation wasn't enough.

Right, because we move to 1972, and Go Nagai completely rewrites the DNA of the genre with Mazinger Z.

This is the precise moment the mecha actually becomes the mecha as we understand it today.

And Nagai's answer to the remote control problem was violently simple.

The stakes are literal.

Every time the robot gets hit, the cockpit shakes.

Go Nagai didn't invent the giant robot, but he absolutely invented the feeling of being one.

Once he put the boy inside the robot, the rules changed forever.

So, like, they would test them out in the Puerto Rican market, translate them in Spanish, and then send it to the rest of Latin America.

So it was like a joke that I would watch like Go Nagai's Messenger C and then go and watch Superbook next, which is the big Christian, like, it's a guy anime.

But that was like my start of my journey into comic fandom, right? I'm

going to just plug in here numbers just for one little thing, Arturo.

Go Nagai, going to do animations for Tokyo Joshi Pro.

So that's Cyber Agent Partnership.

Bring Go Nagai in to get posters.

Really? Are there going to be PG posters?

But then TJPW decided to toss in Jushin "Thunder" Liger.

Like, what the heck, dude? Apparently, Liger is based on an anime of the same name, which is created by a gentleman by the name of Go Nagai, and Go Nagai is actually the gentleman creating the artwork for this event, so perhaps that's where Liger factors in.

I don't know why this match, though, of all of the matches.

Both of these ladies have expressed confidence that Liger will call this match in their favor.

Of course he can.

He goes to Tokyo and he cold calls the studio of Go Nagai, one of the most legendary science fiction manga artists at the time, known for Mazinger Z and several other manga and anime of that period.

Just a really well-known guy in the business.

Cold calls him, somehow manages to get an appointment, proudly strides in, in his own words in later interviews saying, sure that he was going to come out of that with Go Nagai saying, you're hired to work in his studio.

Nagai flips through his stuff, gives some kind of noncommittal kind of stuff, and then encourages him to keep trying.

Yeah.

Yeah, that's one that I've heard of that I'd heard was quite good and interesting, and for whatever reason, I just never watched it.

Yeah, I think, for me, it's the perfect storm because he was heavily influenced by Gou Nagai for, you know, most...

Because, I mean, looking at where he grew up, but, like, aligns perfectly.

And, you know, Devilman is a very storied old IP, so it's...
