In The Peoples of Middle-Earth and Unfinished Tales, we get some ideas from Tolkien about Eloran or Gandalf maybe arriving in the Second Age.

And a lot of these are attached to the ideas about the Blue Wizards and the idea in various conceptions of Glorfindel that Tolkien was working through.

So Tolkien says that Eloran, as was possible for one of the mire had already visited Middle-earth and become acquainted not only with the cinder and elves and others deeper in Middle-earth, but also with men, is likely, but nothing has yet been said of this.

And yeah, this is where Tolkien discusses more in depth the idea of Glorfindel coming with Gandalf.

He's kind of trying to work out the timing of when that might have happened.

He thinks that Glorfindel probably was sent over during the crisis of the Second Age, during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, aka where we are right now.

He's just a guy.

And he tosses Frodo up on his horse, and Frodo, zoom, away to Rivendell, and the Ringwraiths pursue, and some magic shenanigans happens, and they get hit by a giant wave of water as they try to cross the river into Rivendell.

He was then selected by Elrond to be a part of the Fellowship to be a representative of the elves rather than because of any particular abilities over and above the other elves that he might have had.

So what made him appear strange to Frodo on first meeting him? Well, Frodo had met quite a few elves by that point, Gildor and his company in the Shire, Glorfindel, Elrond, and the denizens of Rivendell, most of whom were of Noldorin descent.

But Legolas was the first elf he had probably met from Mirkwood.

Although we might think of all elves as being quite similar in Tolkien's world, they really weren't.

But I would imagine, I would imagine that there were things that irked him a little bit.

Come on, as one of those OG fans, I feel like he's a little irked that Glorfindel wasn't there.

Glorfindel and the elves going to the West in that first episode you cited are just joyful.

They're little happy to be leaving.

They don't care if Sauron takes over.

Because, like, in the movies, like, Frodo and, I mean, it's Arwen who rescues Frodo from the ringwraiths in the movies.

But I'm fairly certain it's Glorfindel in the books.

I could be wrong about that.

But I'm pretty sure it's Glorfindel.

because like they're all just like oh man this is a really bad situation and glowing like chimes in and he's like yeah i'll tell you this guy came and kind of rattled our cages like this is a really serious situation you know and it's just like very creepy um and then you know gandalf talks about uh Because I think that the Council of Elrond scene was handled fairly well, obviously, in the movies.

the nine ringwraiths, I couldn't believe they left out Glorfindel.

He is one of the most important characters in Lord of the Rings and also in the Silmarillion.

He's the only elf, I believe, to ever be allowed to come back to reincarnate because he was that important.

So to leave Glorfindel out, that pained me.

But the excitement of just seeing that world represented on the big screen, I also enjoyed it, even though I had my resentments.

The greatest human ranger, Aragorn, cannot cure it.

Glorfindel, an incredibly powerful elf lord, cannot cure it.

Only Elrond can.
