Joe LachutGUEST
29:47
Yeah.
Seth FordHOST
29:47
I mean, the guitar work of Glenn Tipton on that record is un- just amazing.
Joe LachutGUEST
29:53
Mm-hmm.
Seth FordHOST
29:53
But anyway.
Edgar WintersonUNKNOWN
41:24
studio.
Victor M. RuizHOST
41:26
Produced by Tom Allum and Judas Priest, guitarists KK Downing and Glenn Tipton.
Victor M. RuizHOST
41:33
The first Priest album produced by Tom Allum, who stayed on at the helm through Ram It Down in 1988.
Victor M. RuizHOST
41:39
The last Priest release to feature Les Binks.
Billy CorganHOST
39:19
Yeah.
Scott IanGUEST
39:19
Like, "Oh, I just happened to be sitting in the room with, with Glenn Tipton when he did this," or, you know-
Billy CorganHOST
39:25
Yeah
Scott IanGUEST
39:25
... like, I, I'm not the Zelig of heavy metal, but, like, you just always knew, even in those earliest days, e- even when, like, they went out and opened for Raven in the summer of '83 in the States, and they were crushing them every night and, uh, you know, and then they got the Ozzy tour in '86.
RobHOST
41:45
1988, Ram It Down, title track.
RobHOST
41:47
Even before it starts, you just hear this scream that I'm not going to recreate that starts before, I guess, Glenn Tipton comes in with the riff.
RobHOST
41:55
You mean a scream like this? Exactly.
RobHOST
42:01
Okay.
TimHOST
28:46
Yeah.
TimHOST
28:47
Well, I feel a little bad now, but I don't feel bad saying that Glenn Tipton looks like he and Bon Jovi shared the same hairstylist.
TimHOST
28:56
Like, they all got big hair, you know, except for Halford.
TimHOST
29:02
And there are very few shots of...
TimHOST
30:49
So, but I also noticed the guy wearing a party naked shirt.
speaker_1UNKNOWN
30:53
Yes.
TimHOST
30:55
And there's one shot they kept going to of a Glenn Tipton where you can see the entrance to the arena.
TimHOST
31:03
And there's like always people walking in or out.
PhilHOST
22:39
So two, you know, essentially replacement guitar players.
PhilHOST
22:43
But Glenn came out at the end and did a few songs with them, which was super special.
PhilHOST
22:47
um but yeah they did Saints in Hell and um and Andy Sneap technically should have taken the solo in that because he's Glenn for the night but he gave it to Richie which I thought was a class act yeah yeah and it was it was just fantastic like you know one of those few you know you see so many gigs and what you actually remember even though you know you were there you can't really actually bring pictures to your mind a lot of the time but I can actually see that that was super special that was unreal so at least two songs I've seen performed live um And I haven't even, oh yeah, Beyond the Realms of Death, one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
PhilHOST
23:19
Glenn Tipton, you fucking legend.
PhilHOST
23:26
Where do we go next? We are heading all the way over to Mastodon.
PhilHOST
23:30
Yeah.
Bill BurrHOST
1:01
Yeah.
Bill BurrHOST
1:02
When guitar players do pull-offs as part of the rhythm, that's like that Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downey.
Bill BurrHOST
1:09
I grew up on the double lead things.
Bill BurrHOST
1:12
Anyway, the name of the album is Curse Him.
CarlHOST
15:36
And Priest wouldn't hire him back.
CarlHOST
15:39
I guess him and Glenn Tipton got a lot of animosity with each other and always did, I guess, from the stories I've read now.
CarlHOST
15:48
So then Glenn, of course, has got Parkinson's, and he wasn't able to tour anymore.
CarlHOST
15:53
So, of course, it made sense to let KK come back.
Clint SwitzerHOST
36:43
I love K.K.
Clint SwitzerHOST
36:44
Downing and Glenn Tipton, and I love Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden.
Clint SwitzerHOST
36:49
And I think that Eddie Ojeda, J.J. French is often overlooked as far as like a top tier guitar tandem.
Clint SwitzerHOST
36:55
Just talk about your chemistry.
JayHOST
63:53
we're at it
Fearghal TraynorGUEST
63:56
epitaph i really like this song rob doesn't really sound like himself at all here and he's like he's again he's demonstrating his range and i see i was looking at the credits earlier and i see glenn tipton is credited with piano organ and synthesizer on the album so fair play to glenn the multi-talented person and I'm told that this sounds very similar to early Queen.
Fearghal TraynorGUEST
64:17
Now, I can't really comment on that because I have never listened to any Queen beyond Queen greatest hits.
Fearghal TraynorGUEST
64:23
So I don't really know.
JayHOST
68:46
yeah good point yeah perfect wow you guys hit it out of the park very well done all right and uh a lot of good points by both of you on that record um fantastic and like i said my favorite uh priest album and uh it should win the whole thing it's gonna win i have confidence i have confidence shut up painkiller all right you have
JeffHOST
69:12
confidence i have painkiller we'll see who wins
JayHOST
69:16
it depends on the guests i guess all right uh kk's priest sermons of the sinner which is a kk priest debut record released in 2021 produced by kk downing according to the credits uh with bassist tony newton giving given mixing and engineering credits i think given the choice obviously kk's production is way better than glenn tipton's production has it turned glenn tipton's productions all suck and uh this is actually a pretty good sounding record um production-wise.
JayHOST
69:57
KK Downing is and always has been my favorite guitar player.
