Heartache Tonight from their album The Long Run.

The song came from a jam session between Glenn Frey and J.D. Souther, who we talked about yesterday.

Yesterday was the anniversary of J.D. Souther's death.

He would often visit Glenn Frey at his Los Angeles home when he was in town on tour.

They wrote the first verse while listening to some Sam Cooke songs.

They were jamming, and then...

Glenn Frey called Bob Seger on the phone and sang him the verse.

Seger blurted out what would become the chorus.

In 1979, the Eagles released Heartache Tonight.

This was the lead single from their sixth studio album, The Long Run, and it had Glenn Frey on lead vocals on this one.

Hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

It also won the 1980 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Oh, we met this guy, American guy.

He was Glenn Frey's son.

Glenn Frey, one of the founding members of the Eagles.

And his girlfriend, very nice people.

She was from Florida, from Clearwater.

They came with us.

And he sang Eagle songs the whole night, which, you know, that's cool.

And your dad is Glenn Frey.

These rock and roll bands would meet, I think, at a place called Dan Tannis in L.A. And they would talk about, you know, the future and changing the world and everything.

and don had this little guitar break uh he's listed the eagles were generous uh when us in the studio if if one of their members created a musical uh piece that laid in the middle of a song they got writing credit J.D. Souther, the late, great J.D. Souther, who was a friend of the Eagles, Glenn Frey and Don Henley all got writing credits for this song, too.

It's called The Sad Cafe.

And I've listened to that over and over.

Number two and number one are exactly the same as they were last week, Jim.

Should have been the collaboration.

Uh, and it's like, "Oh, great, Don Henley's here." And then he disappears and no one's ever to be found again.

one sort of violates a couple of the things that I already talked about, but the Miami Vice theme itself was released as a single by Jan Hammer and it hit number one.

And the song You Belong to the City by Glenn Frey, huge hit, was written for this.

Then it also had things that were featured in the show that, again...

Not written for it, but you have Smuggler's Blues by Glenn Frey.

You have In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins.

Not only did it have a couple of original songs, but it had some next-level awesome songs that went along with it.
