Glasgow Barrowland market

Right aye so it's like he used to work with my dad back in the days Aye Aye

so I seen it through my uncles they worked in the barras they had goodies grocers and eh I think they all worked hard Did they have a stall at the Barras? Aye I love that,

I talked to, you can't see the bags about that, the uncles in it, I talked to one of them who's like married into our family right and Uncle Manny in it, I always say to him that I would love to have seen them in there with the G-Star jeans on,

you know what it was like when he was back then, they were making

John Swinney committed to that in his manifesto.

He repeated that commitment in a campaign rally that he did during the Scottish Parliament election on along at the Barras.

We are now writing a plan, the Glasgow City region are writing a plan for what that should look like.

And I think that if we get that across the line in the next five years, I think that could be transformational for Glasgow.

Let's take a moment to learn about this, uh, key location.

The Barrowland Ballroom, commonly just, uh, called the Barrowland or the Barras, pretty famous spot in the history of UK music.

Very, very famous spot in the history of Scottish music.

It was founded by a woman named Margaret McIver.

21-year-old Maggie, uh, married James McIver in 1902.

Maggie would be a nearly lifelong entrepreneur.

She founded the Barras market in Glasgow a decade and a half after getting married, uh, during the interwar years, selling fruit out of her yard.

Fruit that she would haul over and present out of a hand cart, uh, AKA wheelbarrow, hence where the term, you know, from, uh, Barrowland Ballroom comes from.

You know, listening to the radio one, we didn't really listen to Clyde.

The only time I would hear Clyde was my dad would sometimes go to the Barlands, the Barras.

Everyone had Clyde's scoreboard on.

And there was Jimmy Sanderson.

So I popped up, Nebula Trading Cards was the name, which was the one-on-one that I showed you with the Liam Henderson card, and it kind of just took off from there.

Up until the past few weeks, I've actually been trading from the Barras, so right here, the past few weekends, but I also attend... events like card shows and exhibitions and all that sort of stuff so the best way to probably find out where I am would be a wee plug here to check out the socials or the whatsapp channel that I've got which is like kind of live up to date where I'm going to be because I've been in the Forge been in the Barrows I do all these events across the country and Yeah, some things that can be quite difficult to track down, but on the socials are very active.

This has been brilliant.

A wee walk down memory lane, but I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people who tune into Axom who are collectors, who are just historians.
