Um, I also was thinking about Ginger Snaps, um, which it uses, is such a great film that uses the werewolf genre, subgenre to explore puberty, um, and menstruation, and a great story of sisters.

Um, also s- speaking of werewolves, Werewolves Within, which is a- again, an excellent film.

It's really funny and looks at paranoia in a town-

annoying a behind the scenes one a behind the scenes but they count because we have done a lot of um k and b effects yes movies so um well

this is a type of behind the scenes that really is prevalent for horror so it makes sense to give it um an all-star ring

So they did the makeup effects for Ginger Snaps and Final Destination 2 in addition to American Mary.

So I believe they're called the Masters Effects Group.

Hi, my name's Karen Walton, and I wrote the screenplay for Ginger Snaps.

Welcome to the writer's commentary portion of your program.

I had about a million reasons not to do this movie.

I had abandoned it when I was a kid.

And so I had actually missed about 20 years of horror storytelling in film until John convinced me that the smartest thing to do would be for me to write a horror film that I would actually go and see.

So that was the challenge for Ginger Snaps.

And it turns out to be my very first produced screenplay.

The challenges were these.

Hello, this is John Fawcett.

I am the director of Ginger Snaps.

This film was shot in the fall season of 1999, and what you're looking at here is the fictional suburbs of Bailey Downs, which is in fact a suburb of Toronto called Brampton, Ontario.

And this suburb, I think, represents the suburb kind of that I grew up in, very bleak, very oppressive, sort of on the outskirts of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

And him and I have worked together for a long time over the years.

He sort of pretty much began as a storyboard artist and was shooting his own short films.

And he was a very, very good collaborator and a really, really big, important part of Ginger Snaps and...

Not just in the storyboards, but he did early monster designs for me, and a lot of his early stuff, in fact, was stuff that we incorporated into the final design of the monster.

it's one of those, like, I really enjoy it.

I'm a fan of Ginger Snaps.

I love the cast.

Estimated budget of $4 million, apparently only grossing $1.1 million, not shocked.

Filmed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, so barely international, but it is not America, so it counts, just like Ginger Snaps last month.
