So the next time someone tells you that Linux doesn't support this specific thing that Windows does, remind them that it took Microsoft five years to let you move the taskbar or resize the Start menu, and that they still don't let you reorder, uh, search plug-ins, which is insane [laughs] in 2026.

So if a company the size of Microsoft can't do that, then why do you expect Linux to implement a super niche advanced feature that Windows has had for years while Windows doesn't even do the basics right? Now, the GIMP is getting an update too, with preparation work for the GTK4 port, which of course has to happen at some point.

This version comes with performance improvements when you're loading a big number of fonts, so GIMP should start faster, the text tool should be more responsive, and this should also improve with the GTK4 ports, improve further even.

The code base for the application has started to evolve a bit.

They started making changes to dodge the things that would be deprecated in a GTK4 move, uh, to also make sure that porting can be done more easily, uh, by basically removing or reworking certain parts of the app that would not work well in GTK4.

Now, porting from GTK2 to GTK3 took many, many years, but apparently, going from GTK3 to GTK4 is a bit easier.

There are fewer fundamental changes in the architecture of the toolkit, which means it shouldn't take five, six, or eight years, how many years it took from GTK2 to 3.

GIMP also added some features: the ability to cut on an entire layer group instead of having to cut individual elements from each layer.

And that's kind of where CAPTURES came up.

And the reason why it was called GIMPy was because the GIMP, as in the image manipulation program, was scripted to do this.

At the time, GIMP had terrible documentation, essentially none, about how to script.

And the way I built this was through a process of one-bit debugging.
