I'm curious, where should my feelings be around post-quantum cryptography? Somewhere between panic and enthusiasm? Or panic.
23:39
total panic, but you see post-quantum cryptography, maybe you don't know, maybe you do, the difference between post-quantum cryptography and quantum cryptography.
23:48
That's a great point.
23:50
Very different things.
23:51
Quantum cryptography is what Sherry and I invented in 1984, 83 actually, by which we used a lot of physics to transmit, to establish a secret key that is... unbreakable by the laws of physics as long as the apparatus is built correctly, which is not the longest thing to do.
24:10
Whereas what is known as post-quantum cryptography is an attempt to use purely classical techniques to achieve the same goals as what RSA and D.P. Hellman and the current cryptographic infrastructure, which would completely fall down, fall apart when a quantum computer is available.
24:31
So people are trying to scramble to find different ways to achieve the same benefits by purely classical means, but that would be unbreakable by quantum computers, since we know that the current infrastructure is very vulnerable.
