Gila Bend

They literally have good in their name.

But the Arizona towns that see more crashes than others, the highest collision rates per capita, Tolleson, Gila Bend, and Quartzsite.

Now, that's just got to be just kind of a weird statistic.

I mean, I have, I made a little like a zine to go with the book that has all the little specs and other things like that.

Okay, so they started out on US 80, 395, you know, it's the El Cajon Pass and then they go to Yuma and then they do 80 all the way to Gila Bend and then Tucson.

So they're going down, you know, the South.

They go through Roswell.

Three weeks, maybe.

Long enough to see Marietta to Gila Bend.

Marietta believes her brother is there.

All contact between the two had been severed.

Only after her aunt's death had Marietta really tried to find her brother.

whatever man i didn't have anywhere to be so i got to enjoy being in socal for a little while and kind of reporting about um you know it's my first time back there since ewtg pack expeditionary warfare training group pacific which is where the jtac school is held at coronado the amphibia space so i love me some coronado just is um Trained with 11th Marines a little bit and got to go to Gila Bend, got to do some CAS exercises there.

And then they chopped me off to first tanks and I actually did a CACS, a combined arms exercise, which was a whole nother deal, man.

I'm riding an Amtrak, sucking smoke, popping out the TC hatch.

One of my favorite road trips is driving from here in Albuquerque to San Diego.

I love San Diego, but if you've driven that drive, you'll know that there's a specific stretch from Gila Bend to El Centro, which is maybe the most desolate place on God's green earth.

And it goes for hours.

And once you hit it, you know, I have hours more of this.

We had to plan our flight.

He let me pick some routes, so we decided to go north up to the Grand Canyon, fly around the beautiful mountains, then head into Gila Bend airspace to see what kind of maneuvers we wanted to do.

Then we headed to weather.

I was briefed on the other side of the counter.

My pilot was asking, okay, we've done some easy, not-so-strenuous stuff.

Is there anything you'd really like to do while you're here? I asked, can we go break the sound barrier? He said, let me ask.

At that time, we had a lot of bad local news coming out about the many sonic booms out of Gila Bend.

You had to get your permission.

There's not that many places to go.

Where'd you go? Gila Bend?

We could not make it to Gila Bend.

Gila Bend is way further north.

Is it?

Yes.

Gila Bend is almost to Phoenix.
