The Vatican's 1975 document, Christian Faith and Demonology, makes the same basic point in more extended form.

The devil and the other demons were created good by God, but made themselves evil by their own action.

This matters because it gives Christianity a far more stable theological system than the older Watchers and Giants framework.

Now evil is grounded not primarily in hybrid offspring or cosmic aftermath, but in angelic revolt, rebellion, pride, refusal, and definitive opposition to God.

The doctrinal advantages are obvious.

It becomes one of Christianity's great containers for corruption.

So where do demons in Christianity come from? From many places at once.

From the accuser in the Hebrew Bible, from Shittim, Azazel, Lilith, Psalm 91, and Wilderness Threat, from the Second Temple expansion of the Unseen World, from Tobit and Asmodeus, from the Watchers, from the Nephilim and the Giants, from the Spirits of the Giants, from Belial and Mestima, from Greek translation and the hardening of spiritual vocabulary, from Jesus' exorcisms, from Beelzebub and Kingdom language, From Paul's powers and rulers, from Paul's warning about pagan sacrifice, from Justin and Athenagoras attacking the old gods, from idols re-read as sites of demonic fraud, from Origen's providence, from Augustine's diabolical suggestion, from the desert fathers and Evagrius, from the noonday demon, from household bowls buried under the threshold, from late technical lore like the Testament of Solomon.

Later readers couldn't resist walking across that bridge.

Second Temple Jewish writers, especially in texts like 1 Enoch and the Book of Giants, will take this casual line, the sons of Anak come from the Nephilim, and turn it into a full-blown origin story.

The giants in Canaan become literal descendants of the pre-flood hybrid beings.

The fear rhetoric of Numbers 13 fuses with a cryptic myth of Genesis 6, and suddenly you've got a single, continuous storyline.

Rebellious angels produce giants.

Giants survive the flood or re-emerge afterwards.

Their descendants are the monstrous enemies Israel must face in the land.

The biblical text itself is more restrained.

Well, I like Enoch a lot, 1 Enoch versus 2 Enoch or the Book of Giants or 3 Enoch.

But it does have some corruptions in it.

We do not have an original Hebrew manuscript.

He was killed by Moses.

So the myth that he existed before the flood is actually a later rendition of of the Book of the Giants.

And the reason is, is because the Book of the Giants is mixing stuff from, the original version comes from the Essenes, but then the Maticans keep modifying it and they add like Gilgamesh and Og to it because they're just trying to expand on the giant mythology.

and eventually they screw up and they add og who's in the time of moses and so they have to come up with a reason why he would be before the flood because none of the essene literature and none of the enochian literature talks about the canines making giants after the flood they actually they actually try to make it sound like they're all the giants came from before the flood and the flood was there to destroy the giants which conflicts with the Bible because the Bible clearly has Nephilim after the flood.

And even when Moses first comments on the Nephilim, he says they were there in those days and also after that.

We are absolutely on a ride.

Are we sure the Giants aren't just three kids in a trench coat? Are we

positive? It might well be.

That someone is Enoch, and the being having the nightmare is a giant named Ohaya, the son of a fallen angel and a human woman caught between two worlds that were never supposed to mix.

this is the opening scene more or less of one of the strangest texts to survive from the ancient world it's called the book of giants and for most of history almost nobody knew it existed you've probably heard of the book of enoch maybe you've heard whispers about giants in the bible angels who fell from heaven forbidden knowledge monstrous offspring but the book of giants isn't just a footnote to that story it's its own text torn into pieces scattered across a cave in the judean desert for two thousand years before anyone pieced together what it actually said and what it says complicates almost everything you thought you knew about enoch the watchers and the giants that supposedly walked the earth before the flood here's where people usually get the story wrong They hear that fragments of the Book of Giants were found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and they assume it's simple, that this was just leftover material, deleted scenes from the Book of Enoch that didn't make the final cut.

Extra scraps that got cut for space or theology and tossed in a cave like discarded film reels.

That's not what happened.

The Book of Giants isn't Enoch's leftovers.

It's a separate composition entirely, written probably by a different hand, filling in gaps that the Book of Enoch never bothered to address.

What did the giants actually think in their final days, watching judgment close in around them? What did it feel like to be caught between angelic fathers and human mothers, monstrous and doomed? Enoch tells you what happened to the world.

He's a Tiano war chief, peace chief.

And he's in our film and talks about it and talks about the oral tradition of the Giants.

I mean, Sarah Winnemucca is a Paiute woman who writes about the Sitika, the Sitika of the Giants that lived in Las Vegas.

In the Las Vegas area, like, you know, Sarah Winnemucca, what is it called? The Lovelock Cave.
