Gerry Ryan

I wish it was available.

It'd be interesting to hear a very young me trying to hold my own with a great guy like Gerry Ryan, but no, I doubt it, Mart.

I never kept anything, really, over the years.

James Murray tells me it's £1.03 a litre of diesel in Cambodia.

Well, everybody applied like the first year because it had come to Ireland and Fionnuala Sherry, who was a colleague of mine in the newsroom at the time, she was chosen from the auditions and she presented it down in Mill Street in County Cork.

And then the next year I applied again and they chose Gerry Ryan and Cynthia Newark who was a double,

a double

hander.

So it seems to me to be, um, a no-brainer that they need to keep those elements of the localness and the trust in order to keep, um, the, the, the stations going.

And, uh, people still love radio, um, and I've found in the research for the book by talking to people, as I said, the first time you ask, the first question you ask them, they say, "Oh, I don't listen." And then you start teasing it out, and they say, "Well, I heard this thing," or, "I used to love that," or, "I love, uh, Gerry Ryan," or whoever, some of the greats and the iconic people.

Um, it's, it's amazing how people's memories, uh, can be sparked, and they start to remember habits, how they felt about things, rather than maybe individual moments.

Uh, I think that's the, the, the power of radio.

It's where I go...

I remember Gerry Ryan one time, a very famous Irish presenter, he said, you know, what were you doing out there 60 days on the ice walking to the pool? I said, I was looking for God.

And he said, did you find him? I did.

I said, I'm God.

yeah.

I mean, Gerry Ryan's daughter, her son.

Hasn't

RTA gone to the docks? oh my god like
