Well, you know, they teach me every day.

I always-- I tell people, "If you want to learn about life, spend time with your elders, because they will give you all the lessons, all the secrets for you to survive any trials that you might experience and help you become, I think, a more successful person." But, um, as you had me-mentioned, you know, I wrote a book called Life, Love and the In Between: A Geriatrician's Journey Through, um, Aging and the Meaning of Life.

Well, in that book, I talk about different themes that my elders have taught me, and I think it ended up translating into the way I approach care in aging.

And I think it relates not to just elders, but it relates to all of us.

They provide comprehensive assessments, manage complex medical conditions, and coordinate multidisciplinary care to promote healthy aging, preserve independence, and improve overall quality of life.

As a geriatrician, I can get to know them and their close relatives as individuals, and also I get the ability to support and educate the carers as well, because the carers are doing a very challenging duty, and supporting these persons with geriatric syndromes and their carers can be very rewarding as well.

Geriatricians help people manage the common health impacts of aging, including frailty.

I didn't know this before I spoke to her, but frailty is a defined medical term, and doctors like Dr. Champa can assess your level of frailty on a scale.

It turns out that increasing frailty is pretty predictable.
