Gergesa

Mark, chapter five.

Verse one, ton Galilaion, of the Gadarenes.

Gadara, a city of Grecian origin or Greek-like, subject to the Jews, wherein it may be inferred that many Jews dwelt from the fact that our Lord came to them.

Doubtless it had the same port in common with Gerasa or Gergesa, German version.

So they went to arouse him, exclaiming, Master! Master! We shall be lost! But he, roused from sleep, commanded the wind and the rolling waters, and they became calm.

He then asked them, Where is your faith? In their terror and amazement, however, they said to one another, Who then is this, that he even orders the winds and the water, and they obey him? They then sailed to the district of the Gadarenes, situated upon the opposite shore to Galilee.

And having disembarked, there met him a man of that town who was demonized, who for a long time had worn no clothes and did not live at home, but among the tombs.

And seeing Jesus, he shrieked out and fell down before him and called with a loud voice, What is there between me and

For he had ordered the foul spirit to depart from the man, because it frequently took possession of him.

And although he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles, yet breaking these, he used to be driven by the demon into the deserts.

what is your name asked jesus legion replied he for many demons had gone into him and they implored him that he would not order them to return to the pit there was a large herd of swine feeding upon the hill near by and they begged that he would give them permission to enter them he accordingly gave them leave the demons then went out from the man to the swine and the herd rushed headlong down the precipice into the lake and were drowned then the feeders seeing what had occurred took to flight and reported the matter in the town and in the country the people accordingly came out to see what had taken place and coming to jesus they found the man out of whom the demons had gone sitting clothed and in his right mind near the feet of jesus and they were terrified those who had witnessed it then related how it occurred and how the demoniac was cured Then all the people of the neighborhood of the Gadarenes begged him to leave them, for great terror took possession of them.

So going into the boat, he returned.

Mark Chapter 5 Verse 1.

Of the Gadarenes.

Jesus heals two demon-possessed men from Matthew.

When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him.

They were so violent that no one could pass that way.

"'What do you want with us, son of God?' they shouted.

Absolutely amazing.

Let's talk about a miracle I've always found fascinating, and this is the miracle that occurs in the place of the Gadarenes.

Jesus enters, and there are evidently more than one man possessed by demons.

The Bible is focusing on this one guy, and he's possessed evidently by multiple demons.

You know, you have written a new book called The Stones Cry Out.

And I just want to say to your friends, that book is fabulous.

But when you go to the country of the Gadarenes, that's another place where the stones are crying out.

And when you take a ship like Jesus did from the west side of the Sea of Galilee and you sail to the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee, you come to the ruins of an ancient village called Cursi.

Remember, he grew up in Nazareth, but he was rejected in Nazareth, and so he moves to Capernaum.

And that becomes headquarters, and they go from Capernaum over here to the Gerasenes, Gergesenes.

We talked about the various ways to spell it.

Like the town I grew up, Worcester.

But there was actually four spellings of Worcester.

And that's why Wistah is not just some generic pronunciation, it comes back to the etymology of the word.

So in Capernaum, they go to the Gergesenes, and it's there that he casts out the two demons.

Then if you go a little bit further, look at chapter 5 and verse 21.
