So what happened? Well, what happened was the state prosecutors, just like we have the federal investigation in Minnesota, and we have the Hennepin County District Attorney's investigation, the state investigation in Minnesota.

Well, down here, when this happened, it happened on federal land, the GW Parkway, but it happened in Virginia, so it was federal property, so the feds had jurisdiction.

The two police officers that killed the young man were federal park police officers.

But when the federal government opted not to charge these two officers criminally, the state investigated, more specifically Fairfax County district attorneys, and they indicted these two police officers for the homicide.

After many years out of the public spotlight, she reemerged in 1956 and reclaimed an abandoned cottage that was owned by the U.S. government at Brookmont, Maryland, near the Potomac River.

When the National Park Service extended the George Washington Parkway, Ann's idyllic surrounds were discovered in its path, and once again, she summoned up her defiance and steadfastly defended her right to occupy her home.

Jeanette died in 1961.
