George Springer

I don't know if that's going to give you enough over a full season.

That's the problem with George Springer.

Can he be productive? Sure.

I think he still can have a good season, but he handcuffs you so much with your team.

And if he's going to go for a team that is in win now mode, if he's trying to go ring chasing, they're not going to have him as the sole DH.

Like, that just doesn't make sense.

George Springer can't be the sole DH on a World Series team with World Series aspirations.

Could he be that platoon back? Could he be a guy that just plays against left-handed hitting? Sure.

Managing in the playoffs is very different than managing in the regular season.

The last manager certainly learned that was, you know, Kerry Carpenter and George Springer.

But anyway, Joe Espada hasn't proven he has a ton of lucrative playoff managerial experience.

So that is something that he hasn't really dipped his toes far into.

We don't know exactly what's going on in the front office and what's in their mind.

But... what can they do with a hundred million dollars? And I think that that's a fair benchmark with some of the guys coming off the books, Dalton Varshow, George Springer, Kevin Gosman, go down the list on some of these guys, right? That this team no longer has.

And it opens up your books a little bit.

And I think that is a decent enough benchmark to set.

And the reason that $100 million is at least a relatively fair number is because you look at how many players and the financial values that are coming off the books this season.

Kevin Gossman was at $22 million.

George Springer $25 million.

Dalton Varsha a $10 million contract.

Now year over year this chart was pretty consistent, but what I'm actually looking at are the names that were the best late values for each of the last two years.

On the hitting side, it was George Springer who was a $29 player, which was the 11th best player per the Fangraphs player rater that we exported out to use for this.

On the pitching side, it was Nick Pavetta.

He was just a $23 player.

How many of those 200 plus ADP players finished in the top 10 either year? And again, starting from the bottom, you've got outfield at the bottom of this list.

Of the 40 players that we're talking about, so top 20 in 2025, top 20 in 2026, only nine of them came from ADP 200 or later.

Ironically, two of the best values that we've seen so far in Jordan Walker and George Springer.

But that position is at the bottom.

Like he started his own hitting academy in Western Massachusetts, where he's from.

He was part of the guys that helped George Springer get to the level that George Springer is at when he was at UConn.

So I think that that is a good sign.

So he he is well versed in all of the.

Ernie Clement

was horrible this year.

George Springer was horrible.

Vlad Guerrero barely hit

And we thought the Jays had a shot this year because it was basically, you know, the same team, but then injuries to the pitching staff, Vladdy having an off year, Ernie Clement not even coming close to what he was the year prior.

kirk broke his thumb george springer was hurt for chunks of the year it it just wasn't meant to be and that's the way it goes like i say only one team wins and the rest of us have to just shake our heads and walk away

Yeah, I mean, obviously for us on this side of the pond, watching the World Series middle of the night as ever for those evening games and yeah, had conversations with friends during that last seventh inning, sorry, seventh game and just, you know, even feeling it from all these, you know, hundreds of miles away as we're watching it through the broadcast and what you guys are presenting to us and that sense of, Well, that was so close.

And for me, you know, as a Jays fan, not from the very beginning, but from my first visit in 94, I'd obviously missed the two World Series in 92, 93.

as a fan it'll be very disappointing because like i say i lived through that one you know and i i just it was into my year number two and all of a sudden i wasn't working and that was uh not good i navigated it but it wasn't fun

no and of course that was the year i came and saw my first game and then five days later the you know that the strike happened and uh that was 94 and into 95 gone uh so yeah remember it remember it really well as a new fan um i was just uh just thinking about max and uh obviously the impact that he had and The amazing ovation and so on that he had when he finally walked off the field.

Obviously, we had another big departure this season in terms of George Springer.

And again, a massive fan favourite.

That's a great guess.

George Springer.

These are all

good guesses.

Carlos Correa got called up.

George Springer had been called up the year before, but this was the year he was starting to turn around.

Lance McCullers was called up.

And these are all names that Astros fans know and love, right? These are core guys that would eventually help them to win all these championships.
