It was the government in a very vulnerable position.

I suppose what I'm really driving at is, should we be really angry with, I don't know, George Osborne, for example, who issued a ton of these index-linked bonds?

That's an interesting question.

And I probably take a different view to many on this.

But that feels quite a generic attack that doesn't have a clear purchase.

It's not like you're going back to the famous, notorious George Osborne on the shambles budget where they announced things and said, we've done this very clever thing.

And then the couple of days later, people are saying, this very clever thing you've done seems not to be so clever because actually it's backfired.

Or, you know, Rachel Reeves had the same problem.

What he had was a bottle of whiskey in the box.

The budget speech was being held in a Tesco carrier bag by George Osborne in the back row, which was a junior minister or something like that.

And he would drink.

And they haven't drunk for a long time.

there's also a fact about the budget box was there was an original box from gladstone i think made in 18 something and that was used for years and gordon brown made a new one and i think george osborne went back to the gladstone box and that's all sorts of little fun bits that float around about it but fundamentally it is their chance to show off their chance to make jokes um they always make jokes they're not

So this was all set up by the chair of the museum.

And the chair of museum, it's worth pointing out, is none other than the former Tory Chancellor George Osborne.

That is the politician who was the architect of the Tories disastrous austerity campaign after the financial crash that plunged so many people in this country unnecessarily into poverty.

And when Osborne was asked why he was happy to accommodate the billionaire's personal request for this VIP showing, Osborne explained he thought it'd be fine because he didn't think anybody would ever find out about it.

You can't have any discussion whatsoever.

I mean, I remember when I was a youngster knocking on the doors for the Tory party when David Cameron and George Osborne were thinking of just doing a tiny bit of private contracting in the NHS, not making anyone pay for it, just a little bit of private contracting.

But then everyone knocking every single door people were like oh, but I can't vote for the Tories because I heard they're gonna privatize the energy Yeah, I know what a slave is big thing that messaging always

sticks.

I mean personally I wouldn't care less but people get very worked up about it if I knocked on doors for Maybe Cameron and George Osborne when people open the door.

I said don't vote for them.

John Swinney from the SNP got up, and this was the first opportunity they had to raise income tax, as they wished, as part of the new settlement from the government.

And guess what they did? What? They almost completely aped George Osborne's budget.

They didn't raise their income taxes, and they did exactly the same sort of policies to try and do exactly what the Tories are doing.
