Geoffrey Boycott

There's a story, I'm pretty sure, that was Ian Botham.

He got sent out to bat for England in an ODI, and Geoffrey Boycott was doing that at one end, and he got sent out to run Boycott out because he was holding them up too much.

That was a

test match in Christchurch.

Oh, was it a test match? A test match in Christchurch.

Christchurch, and Boycott was playing for his average, and they needed quick runs, and they did, I think it was Christchurch, someone will correct me if I'm wrong, it was, New Zealand had won the first test in Wellington, they needed to level the series, I think Christchurch, as I say, feel free to text in, and Botham went out to get quick runs, and yeah, he ran Boycott out, and legend has it, Boycott said, what have you done to me, and Boycott, and Botham said, I've run you out, you bleep bleep, or something like that.

There's never been any love lost between those two as a result.

So he started, uh, with a double hundred, and I vividly remember watching his interview, um, on, on the BBC highlights that night, which obviously I recorded.

And he was talking to, I think it was Geoffrey Boycott that he was talking to oddly enough.

And he said to him something like, um, you know, Geoffrey Boycott had said to him, "At Lords, you looked so good, you were gonna get a double hundred.

I thought you were gonna get a double hundred." And he went in at 73 overnight.

The next day, he got out first ball of the day or whatever for 73.
