Genie

... whatever, however you wanna spell it.

And, you know, think about that cute little, uh, Robin Williams movie, right? Genie in Aladdin.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Right? That's the jinn.

They're concerned for him based on what Jasmine told them, and he knows there's no fooling her.

He was happy to set Genie free, but since he did, things have been so quiet and he needs some excitement and action.

So he goes into town sometimes to regain some of that.

They turn to Iago to give him an opening for his apology, but he looks where the merchant and the lamp went in fear and terror.

The two chase each other in front of the steps of the palace as Pete hangs the lamp high in the sky.

Iago snatches it out of his hands but drops it after hitting a wall.

Suddenly, Genie arrives in Agrabah for a timely visit.

He mistakes Pete for Aladdin and roughs him up out of excitement.

Right

... whatever, however you wanna spell it, and, you know, think about that cute little, uh, Robin Williams movie, right? Genie in Aladdin.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Right? That's the jinn.

I wanted him to have that evil like delivery, like everything he said was dripping with venom and, and this, it is, but it's so subdued and, and mild and it, it is okay.

Like it ends up being fine because he's, Juxtaposed to Genie and Aladdin's great and Naomi Scott's fantastic in this movie and everything else is big and beautiful and bright and he is more low key and that's OK.

Like it still works.

But I wanted more of like a fully evil sort of not over the top.

It justifies its existence, which a lot of these Disney ones don't.

Yeah, it's and I really love the kind of the the different ending where Will Smith's genie is get he set free, but he's he's human and gets to go do his, you know, yeah, human thing rather than having the end of the anime.

Yeah, having that love interest really grounds things, makes Genie more human, you know, because the other Genie is still very much a Genie.

Like, he doesn't lose any power.

You're always doing something different.

And, you know, understudying people like Guesty and, um, Michael James Scott as the Genie.

I mean, whoever thought the funny little Jewish guy would do the Genie in...

We called him the Junie-

when I was on.[laughs] And they even got me like the Genie bear and, and put a little beard on and put a little kippah on his head and said, "This is the Genie doll when we sell the merchandise when you're on." Um, uh, and then obviously most recently, understudying Roger Bart in Back to the Future.
